Love riding at night as long as it's summer.  Night and cold, don't do that anymore at all.   Used to ride all night sometimes.  Mostly in areas with lighter traffic.  Don't like being in heavy traffic in the dark.

I quit riding in the dark 15 years ago when I moved to the Yukon.
My driveway is snow-packed until April. After that the sun is spending 14 hours above the horizon and climbing.

I get new glasses every two years. This includes total eye exam.

I used to ride at night through AZ all the time. City driving is no problem, lots of nice street lights to shine on the streets.

My concern now is driving through rural areas not well lit. Highways aren't a problem either. Lots of lane markers to follow.

Driving in this region at night is difficult. Small towns spread apart by a few km's of mostly unmarked two lanes. It can be difficult to navigate at times.

I'm not too worried about deer but they are supposed to be around.

I just dislike night driving more and more. I guess it's more about my locations than my abilities.

I love riding at night in the city if it's warm out. I like to explore alley ways and places I haven't been before. Out in the country is a different matter though, deer are a pain in the butt.

The headlights on the B11 aren't very good at night unless you can use the high beam, so I tend to stick to city areas where it's well lit.

I use to love leaving for a trip an hour or two before sunrise. Usually calm winds and lots of smells along with the dawn.

That was my impression too. I don't want o be prevented from riding at night but I do need to improve dip beam on my B11

A man sized bulb and beam aim is on the list of fixes for me!

Generally, I'm no longer as keen as I used to be night riding, but just did it again tonight & it was great. A cool 24C, only a little traffic - I think perhaps the midday nap I had today had an effect. Come to think of it, I have no qualms leaving on trips an hour or so before dawn. Maybe us old farts just need to be rested to enjoy it.

While I don't often travel at night, I don't too much mind travelling on interstates after dark. I feel more visible at night even in the rain w/my reflective surfaces reflecting. Unfamiliar cities w/their speedy traffic, unusual twists and turns can be a bit trying though, but even then the traffic is generally lighter. Deer are less of a worry than those cable median barriers, I shudder to think of becoming tangled in one of those, day or night.

I ride to work every morning in the dark.  Most of it interstate.  My eyes are still ok and no signs of any issues yet.  But only 62  :)

PS and, no, if I have a choice I won't ride in the rain after dark.

There are way too many drivers out there who have vision problems at night and believe that their problems entitle them to not dim their lights for an on coming vehicle or when approaching one from behind.
They need the extra light to see the road when oncoming glare blinds them so they just stay on brights even if you flicker yours to remind them.  If they are that bad with their night vision, they should leave the driving to someone else.

I encounter that often on the way home from work. I used to flick my high beams at them. Now, I just turn on my high beams and leave them on until they dip their lights. The Stelvio has dual HID bulbs and two very bright LED spots that come on with my high beams. It has to be very unpleasant for them. Oh well, I have to see through their bright lights.

Do not ride at night in Eastern Idaho especially due to: elk, moose, deer, grizzly bears, bison, bears, cattle, wolves, inattentive drivers, and Bigfoot. I think I covered all the possible dangers in this area. And in winter, early spring, and parts of late fall, it is too darn cold.

I too have tried that technique.  I found it dangerous because of the stupidity of the oncoming driver.
When you leave your brights on, the idiots subconciously are steering towards you attracted by your brights.
It is the steer where you look syndrome.
I try to stay off the roads at night as much as possible.
Also I have experienced police who drive up on your rear with their brights on high so that you will be unable to identify them as police.  The intent is to stampede you into defensively speeding up so that they can ticket you.  The last time it happened to me, I said to the officer, " I accept the ticket but I will go to court and request a charge against you for tailgating with your brights on.  He decided to let me off with a warning.

In norCal you have  mtn. lions to contend with too, but no moose, grizzly or bison.

I'm ok on a motorcycle but both of my cars are low to the ground and oncoming traffic bothers me at night especially pick ups with misaimed lights and those idiots who use the fog lights all the time.
Now some drivers are adding led driving lights, not aiming them properly and using them in clear weather.
On a bike I'm up higher so its not as bad

It's been recommended to me by my eye doc because of my glaucoma, but if JB can do his zillion miles with one eye, I should be able to get along fine with 1.5

you can get a special prescription for glaucoma if you're in Colorado, or California. .possibly even a few other more accommodating states.  I think the most effective prescription goes by the pharmaceutical name of "Stankeye".  The generic version if you're worried about co-pay is "Mindblender".

The area around me has the highest incidence of Roo strike of anywhere in NSW! If you think deer are dim you ain't seen nuffink until you've encountered an eastern grey kangaroo!

Mainly though I don't ride or drive much at night because I'm a lazy homebody who doesn't like being further away from my bed than my local pub and they have a courtesy bus to take my miserable drunken carcass home in! :boozing:

Fortunately our deer are real scaredy cats, probably because if they show there faces they get shot. :thumb: Noxious animule here.

I am evidently just getting a touch of cataract in my left eye, but it has not stopped me night riding. A lot of my early miles were done at night and I really got to enjoy riding during the night. Still do.

I rode at night a great deal as a younger guy, but it was at least partly because of where I lived. Both in New Orleans and in Albuquerque, I truly loved riding through the city on summer nights. The air has a soft quality that makes me want to just cruise along at a moderate pace, smelling smells and seeing what is going on. Nowadays, I live out in the country and between deer and drunk drivers I limit night riding to a minimum.  My eyes are still holding up pretty well...I need readers for close work, but my distance and night vision is still okay.
