Mulholland has claimed riders for decades...long before any of us had even a cell phone in hand...

Part of it is that slight bend in the road that causes high sides, other crashes seem to be getting "disconnected" from the bike, and probably others thinking about "looking good for the cameras" and not really concentrating on riding. I would think by now they should put some heavy duty padding on that guardrail as tons of people have been thru it, under it, over it...but they probably think that would encourage even more riders....if that's possible.

One thing's for certain...tomorrow and next weekend, there will be more crashes at that same spot...

Which is why this YouTube channel has 260,000 subscribers. And as this video shows, lots of riders on Mulholland are now running GoPro cameras, which among other things record their own crashes. Plus, somebody on that corner is now running a drone.

Still not clear to me why someone who wants to ride that aggressively wouldn't go to a track.

Well...most of the folks don't want to pay for a track day...for starters that's more expensive than they want to spend, OR they went to a track day and now are showing off their skills!! Many of them think they are competent enough to ride aggressively and sadly they're not. There are many videos of guys wearing helmet, what look like full leathers and then short socks and tennis shoes...and getting crunched as the bike lands on them.

Indeed...the form of filming has evolved over the years from handheld 8 mm w/o sound to with sound to monster video cams to cell phones to GoPros and now to drones...a nice evolution of filming for sure...the behavior is the same, just more modern technology to capture it...sort of like the Russian dash cam crashes! You can spend an hour watching crashes alone...although that may not be a good idea!

I rode that road for the first time recently (thanks to Chuck and our Scura Rally). I recognized that corner when I approached it and slowed way down. I thought "there's no f-ing way I'm crashing on that corner." So, at least for me, these videos have been instructive.

As for why they don't go to a track? Who knows? I stay away from places like that on the weekends. I've seen too many bikes drift across the yellow line into my lane. On one mountain road near me, I heard guys talking about their lap times - on a spot where they can make about a 10-mile triangle. No thanks.

When you see video's of that road, they seem to drive slow and they still crash. And crashing in uphill and downhill.

Corner looks to change camber and tighten at the same time...watching closely at 46 seconds, wtf caused him to crash? Rear brake?

I watched a guy go down in the same corner back in 1987! I think you can go any day and you will someone spilled there. Pretty sure they lose the front wheel as a result of the pavement irregularities, road contamination, debris, etc and then try to correct. Never ends well.

I've watched a lot of videos of crashes at that corner and there seem to be two types.

1) low-side entering the turn to near the apex. Too much front brake. Bike slides into the ARMCO.
2) high-side exiting the turn. Too much throttle on the exit.

I agree. I think both are related to pavement irregularities, patch repairs, and maybe dust on the pavement.

From my point of view, our man was looking for trouble in general with his overall style and little concern for the "in betweens" of riding.

Crowding and over riding that double yellow with no accommodation for potential oncoming made my hands sweat just watching it... truly! Spend any time up there and you learn your greatest threat other than your own damn self is the oncoming you didn't see because he's pulling back onto the road from a shoulder and you thought it was clear seeing no one in the lane earlier in the run-up.

Then, his infatuation with over-utilizing his cute sparkly sliders was his undoing.

When he went to lift his knee -excessive angle, too much weight or concern for the turtle or all of the above - he simply fell over.

Then there's the fault of the follower in his own tumble.

That's the one thing I've taken away from this, they are all packed in fairly close. I'm surprised that the lot didn't come down.

While the canyon roads are breathtaking in parts they are often covered in debris and in a lot of places are terribly unforgiving if things go wrong. It's also a highly populated part of the state so traffic density is fairly high. Same thing for other famous 'Bike' roads like the Dragon on the other side of the country. Lovely to ride, if it's deserted, which it rarely is but at the same time terribly dangerous if you over cook it.

I was watching a weirdo do figure 8s over and over again in a church parking lot while I was waiting at a construction site. Seeing him check his tire led me to believe he was exorcising "chicken strips".
