Wouldn't have been fun at any time. I got vertigo just from the pictures. I can deal with some mountain roads but those were extreme to the max.

I can put you on a trail 30 miles from here that will make you go OH $%&@. And still be within chopper distance from a major hospital. Don't think I'll be going to Pakistan. Cool post though!

Even if you survive the roads, you still can't drink the water. Still a lot of the U.S. I haven't seen yet.

Bill...just take a bunch of Iodine Tablets and a water purifier...just think of the fun!!

All right...post up your hairiest rides here in the U.S. I've done a bunch of off road trailers in the 4x4 in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, but never on a dual sport....maybe that will be the next adventure!!

Sure glad you posted your video. I was on that road in '03 (riding ST1100 at the time) and have never been able to find it again although I have been back to Monument Valley half a dozen times since then.

Thanks to your comments on the YouTube video page maybe I'll be able to find it next time.

It took me a while. I vaguely remembered its was on the way to Mexican Hat, and I had pictures, but it wasn't in my journal. So I went through the the sequence of my pictures and backed up from there. I remember clearly, and I have a picture from the midway pullover and was getting ready to head the rest of the way down when I saw a tractor trailer heading up! I waited until he got past me before heading down the rest of the way. He was throwing up a dust storm behind him, and I don't like to get my bike dirty

Moki is great...head north out of Mexican hat towards the Garden of the Gods...then Head up the mountains. We did that with our Land Rover club on the way to run Hole in the Rick trail...great adventures!

Psychologically Moki is easy going up, but, kind of a terror at the start going down. (you can get the idea if you use Google street view).

From the north you're on a nice paved road, few curves. There are warning signs when you turn off of UT95 onto UT261, but, the road looks good. 20 or so miles of nice pavement.

The you start seeing the warning signs again. Pretty soon it looks like you are coming to the edge of the earth. You can see the sky and the end of the road, but, that's it. Road turns to dirt. A little later you are at the edge, a 90 left turn that runs down the face of the cliff. Makes you pucker a bit.

But, the road is wide, well graded, with berms at the edges and plenty of places to stop.

PS at the bottom there is a road called Valley of the Gods. Dirt. But, it takes you into a mini version of Monument Valley that I think is prettier.

PPS I thought the roads up Pikes Peak, Mount Evans, Silverton-Ouray, and Rocky Mountain NP were more nerve wracking than Moki

Next time will have to be on the Norge, with some Trail rated tires I think...

Silverton to Telluride via Ophir Pass is a nice easy fun trail...then you can flip over Imogene and come back down Black Bear...makes for a great loop in 1 day!!

The Moki Dugway is on our list for next month. And/or Pikes Peak. Ultimately The Weather Gods will decide for us.

Did Mosquito Pass with a two wheel drive van back in the 70's.

Mosquito Pass, elevation 13,185 ft (4,019 m), is a high mountain pass in the Mosquito Range of central Colorado in the United States. It lies on the boundary between Lake and Park counties between Leadville (west) and Fairplay (east). It also lies on the divide between the Arkansas and South Platte Rivers, which is the informal demarcation between the northern and southern parts of Colorado east of the Continental Divide.

One of the highest passes in the state, Mosquito Pass can be traversed only on foot, on an offroad motorcycle or with a proper four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle. 2WD vehicles will find the road difficult due to the stream crossings and high rocky sections. Even with 4WD, it is typically passable only during the summer months.

The interchanges of I-65, I64 and I 71 in downtown Louisville should be listed here. After 4 years of construction, the roads are extremely dangerous and change daily. Travel at your own risk. In the mean time, I will stick with the many adventures in Southern Indiana and Eastern Kentucky.

For a safe taste of similar roads spend a couple of days in death valley.the roads on the west side are great.
I spent 2 days last spring on an800 tiger there and I'll go back

That's when seemingly indiscriminately placed items are more than likely marking IED remote detonation points!
