Thruxton
« on: April 05, 2016, 04:54:43 PM »
I know the talk about this bike has been on several thread so the Moderator should feel free to combine if likes.

But this the first actual test ride I've seen online.

its hard to believe these two Bonnevilles are made by the same company. From the T120, you get a reserved, gentlemanly riding experience. On the Thruxton, wellcrack the throttle and hang on for dear life.

Oh, but the chain drive is sooooooo messy  And the Triumphs have no "soul"   they're not British, they're made in Tiawan

There, got that out of the way!

I was looking at the Thrux at the Triumph open house last weekend. LOVE IT!

I must say I was pretty skeptical but this sounds like a pretty nice ride.  I wonder how close it is to a Speed Triple performance wise?

Bet a Street Triple would give it a run for it's money. http://wildguzzi.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

And... The "carbs" are bits of pandering, pusillanimous parumphity!

All in all, after zipping through the Triumph line recently, now that AZ Superbike has moved, I could well see myself migrate to that manufacturer as I'm left behind by Moto Guzzi.

Still, the v-9 is in the wings...

I don't know for sure about the latest Bonnie's, but the last generation was made in Thailand, not Taiwan.

I would think a Speed Triple would clean it's clock but a Street might be interesting.

Noticed the spokes in the front wheel touch where they cross over so much so that the spokes bend slightly  between the hub and rim !!!!!!! Pox.

Thruxton is simply lovely.  I could put maybe 30 miles on it.  :embarrassed: Be nice if they eventually offer a standard sit-up model with the hi zoot engine and suspension. I'll keep an eye on the bike breakers.... :bike-037:

Yes, it would be interesting to compare the performance and geometry of a Streety versus the new Thruxton.  Street is only 400 pounds though, but the torque of the big twin is higher.  I look forward to seeing any of these new Bonnievilles someday.  Local dealer has sold every one they can get, so far.  They were allotted five of the Thruxtons, all spoken for.

Impressive bike and design, congrats to Triumph.

I really like the new Thruxton R and would love to own one. I had even placed a deposit on one. However, when I considered that the new Thruxton R would cost me one and a half times more than a new Norge, I withdrew my deposit and bought a new Norge.

The new Thruxton R looks tremendous, but it is nowhere near as practical as the Norge, and I need practical for regular commuting in the rain and at night. Also, I cannot in good conscience buy more than one new motorcycle right now. So, the Norge is it--for now!

Street Triple is light years ahead of Thruxton.  Except in the looks department.

Wheels/tires/brakes/suspension are better on the Street triple.  Not to mention the screaming engine.

If lap times are your judge of these things, Thruxton will be number two.

If traditional good looks and the most powerful/best handling bike in the retro standard/cafe class appeals most, then Street Triple is just another naked sporty insect that's not even on the radar...

And since I don't ride on the track... the Street wouldn't even be in the running...

But to be fair, I'd probably go for the T120 over the Thruxton for the same reason.

Dad of Lucy is in complete agreement with points made by both Rocker and Kev.

The Streety engine is a joy--unbelievable.  The T120 would be my choice over the Thruxton, but in the red/white tank combo, not black.

Given that, when available I want to test a T120 out someday.  Hoping to get my beloved STRX back this week from dealer, hopefully finding and fixing the dead idle....then idle fine issue.  Prime riding season here.  Guzzi gets a run today before latest cool/wet front hits later today.
