That's exactly what they were. Well, modified Long-EZs or Velocities. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_Racing_League

Doesn't the exhaust melt the rear tire?

Geeze, if John Denver had one of those instead - he wouldn't have been switching tanks so low.

Of course, he coulda just followed advice well given and modified the valve/location too.

I bet it'd be a treat to watch and hear one of these negotiate one of the Red Bull circuits. What was their flight duration?

Hell, that shoulda been on a BMW or MB

It had been my understanding that Denver had the valve location change scheduled to be done in about two weeks after the crash.

I saw some more rocket inspired car designs from the past ....

Not your father's Oldsmobile.

Bring sun protection and a sweat towel.

Buck Rodgers and his lame buzzing, sparkle rocket comes to mind when I see this 3 wheeler.

For the kids: toy rockets attached to home made toy car racers.

Hey! We could get a group discount on some jet packs and have some fun doing some formation flying together!

....or not.  :boozing:

Italian Body! Could use any fuel. Melt snow.

I put together a plastic car model of this car, when I was just a little NGC.

Like the Rocket Racers , the Turbine Chrysler has a Tulsa connection . When I was a boy a local family had the car for a few months , part of the promotion put together by Chrysler in 1965 .

They say the motor is so smooth you can stand a nickel on end on it while running.

i read in some hot rod oriented magazine during the sixties of turbonique. they had a rocket turbine that was to be attached to a solid axle car's diff to add instant power, and a nifty strange rocket turbine tadpole with one drag slick at the rear. i think it was green.

Here's the full story of Turbonique -- I'd never heard of this before and am awed.

I saw Jack McClure run his jet cart....wow! your eyes and brain simply could not fathom something that small moving that fast...
Later, in the pits, got to see him and the rig close up...the drag chute was designed to pull the driver up and away from the cart since it would offer a better chance of survival than trying to deploy so close to the ground...
