Griso Touring Shield? Sell me one!
« on: April 12, 2016, 10:16:21 PM »
Whatever happened to the Griso touring shield, anybody know?  I know they were made up until a year or so ago???  Now I can't find them listed anywhere as being available for purchase.  Anyone got one they want to sell?

I picked up a used MRA windscreen with a Laminair lip that has been pretty good for long rides. Otherwise I have the Givi 770 on it.

I have something similar to this one: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mra-customshield-universal-windshield

Dead stock. Shits me as the 'Flyscreen' is shit. Most newcomers are going to the Dart.

Crap!!!  What I thought.  I already have the Dart screen and I like it for Summer but sure wish I had the touring for the rest of the year.  I now have a cheapy Spitfire shield on there that does the business mostly but is cheap, cheap, cheap and looks it too, also trembles like the mostly plastic leaf it is.

Btw, Pete, thanks for your input over on the Ghetto site about my dash.  I was convinced my dash was going bad or my speedo sensor was getting wet as it as dash was repeatedly going blank.  You suggested checking cables - something I should have done already - and bingo, there it was, very looose positive battery connection.  I'm not totally prepared yet to say it's cured but since I tightened it down no problems yet.

Parabellum makes a sport touring shield for the Griso. These windshields have a good reputation...

How about one of the 4-point mount Givi Universal screens?  I'm using the A31 shield and D45 mount kit on my V7II Stone, works very well, and although I'm not a real fan of the look of the hand wind guard bumps, they actually give quite of bit of wind protection, at least to cold air.  haven't ridden in rain yet.  I look over the top of it.  (I preferred the look of the A34, about the same size, but it wasn't available anywhere when I was shopping.)  The mounts are a little squirrely to set up (essentially a U-joint on each end of the 4 mount arms), but once you have the alignment and screen angle that suits you, the mount is rock solid.  They have a few different styles and sizes.  They also have 2-point mount screens, but they are more like the size of Dart screens, and with only 2 mounting points.  (I wonder how well that works at high speeds?)

Yeah, it's pretty good, it's working well.  The top of the shield is right about neck high, the air flow is pretty clean at the helmet.

For reference, I'm 6' tall, 30" inseam, a bit taller in the upper body.

I strap a National Street Shield EX to my luggage and put it on when there is severe weather.

The rest of the time I just use the factory flyscreen, which the other one fits over.

BP.... I had to combine the mounts from the Griso Fly screen with the shield from another (can't remember now) to get a touring style shield for my G11... 8 years ago.. Due the minimal numbers of Gs sold in the US I would doubt any of the screen manufacturers have made a specific screen... sorry :(

There are definitely specific screens for a Griso...good luck finding one used. Did you hit up Harpers?

This is pretty cool too.

BP you maybe over thinking this some but hey that's what I always do :)  Those Griso touring shields were somewhere around $300 in the U.S. when they were available and they were about 15" tall.  They look great and they say Griso on them but they were semi-permanently mounted (if there is such a thing) in that you are not going to take it on and off very often.  When I picked up a Griso that's the screen that I was looking for too but when the search came up dry I went with the Deflector DX.  It's about the same size/coverage, goes on and off in seconds if don't mind leaving the handlebar mounts on, and costs 1/3 price ($90).  And that comparison is useful only if you can find the touring shield which will be tough.

Here's the thing.  Now that I've ridden some I've found even the Deflector DX sitting in the garage most of the time and not on the bike.  I use the screen to/from work because it's all freeway, and I used it the other day on a longer trip where the Interstate was involved.  But that's about it.   At 70 mph and below I'm enjoying riding her just the way she was born... naked!

Oh and Onur's bar risers are a much better bang for the buck than the shield in terms of comfort.

I bought my Moto Guzzi Griso Touring Screen from Teo Lamers.  They used to have them in stock.  Might be worth an email to see if they have any left.

I've got a spare one. Not sure I want to sell it though. Seems I frequently crash my Griso. I may need it one day.

Thanks to those for responding.  Like Steve above, I managed to get the spare A31 Givi I had in the garage out and mounted it on the bike.  Givi doesn't make bar mounts, however, that fit the Griso so I had to get out the grinder and whittle the upper mounting arms of the shield down so they would fit into the Slipstreamer Spitfire bar mounts I had handy (Slipstreamer does make bar mounts to fit 1 1/8" bars).  Couple of pics.  Not the best looking shield in the world but hey it works.  Far and away to my eyes the Griso looks best naked or practically naked.

In my opinion I would not put a shield on a Griso. Fly screen maybe but the bike looks like it should be left naked.

The GRiSO is aesthetically pleasing.

Put away the corn cob pipe and suspenders, and step away from the Swanee Fairing Catalog...

I was pleased being able to find a Guzzi OEM flyscreen for my Tenni Green 8vSE.  I should have pulled it before selling the bike in 2015, but I'd already posted pics on eBay showing the bike with the flyscreen.  Far from being a touring shield, it did make a small pocket  of clear air thru the windstream.  However, it's primary function, aside from aesthetics, was to keep the instrument pod 'fly-free.'  Good mount, and my particular screen was a dark smoked greenish/black.

When you're cruising down the road in the rain and its in the 50'sF out there, looks don't count for squat. Gimme a wind screen.  :thewife:

For putzing around town I'll put with up no screen, lousy seat etc. But on a tour or road trip comfort wins out because fatigue can kill you.

Quite a few people complain about wind buffeting around the head with the larger factory screen. It must be something to do with different physiques because I've never had any real problems in that regard. Now I have Onur's 15mm bar risers at normal, quasi-legal speeds, with ear plugs in of course, I sit in an almost eerily silent pool of calm air. It's very pleasant. I think the Flinders Ranges trip next week will be a good test.

Since the factory screen is no longer available the Dart screens from the UK are probably the closest competitor.

Guilty as charged! Mainly though its 'Duck's Disease', I have a long back but short, waddling little legs!

Here are a couple of pics of The Dart on a customer's bike.

its bigger than the factory flyscreen but not quite as large as the big factory screen.

BP...I wonder if one of the Memphis Bullet Shades might be adaptable to the Griso...if that kind of look appeals to you...they have enough variety that one might work...just another thought if you can play around with the mounting/etc...
