Genuine 'telaio rosso' model at Bonham's
« on: April 15, 2016, 06:46:23 PM »
I just came across this 1971 V7 Sport up for auction at Bonham's.

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23600/lot/429/

If you click on one of the small pictures and then click on the + sign repeatedly and wait for the image to redraw, you can examine the bike up close, bit by bit.

May have a red frame, but that's not one of the original telio rossos.

And there's the usual story about the post-war V-twin being used for motorcycles later.

Or, it at least has the wrong case for it's transmission (should be smooth like a four-speed) and aftermarket mufflers.

And it has the big starter with solenoid and no electronic fuel valve.

I agree with the "nit" picking.  The real proof would be the VIN.

Is that factual, or not?

Are the frame and engine numbers given not suitable?

The engines bore little resemblance , sure someone is running the VIN to find out .

As I've read the history, the motorcycle engine was an independent design, and not based on the earlier v-twins used in the utility vehicles.  The only thing in common is the 90 degree cylinder layout.

red frame vin : VK11111 to VK11261 so the bike for sale has a real telaio rosso.
( but i would make sure the frame is the real  (Acc. 25CrMo4 UNI 5332 ) chrome/moli steel.

Regarding the engine , VK30076 i believe come from an older V7 sport black frame.

I have personally seen 4 red frame in my life and they all had matching frame and engine vin.

The red frame bikes were all used to race, maybe this particular had engine and transmission swap for some reason .... the 5 speed with smooth case were "weak" that could be the reason why the trans was swapped ?
hard to tell, nice bike tho.

TR don't have matching numbers. Frame aswell as engine is in the range for TR. Many gearboxes where swapped with ribbed one, because of problems with smooth ones.

Here i have seen two genuine TR.

Muflers seem the optional Lafranconi's.

Frontlegs are productionele type, not TR.

I have to correct myself,
after reading the above link regarding frame and engine #, it looks like the red frame bike for sale could be the real deal, just have a transmission swapped out.
beside mufflers and others little things.
