Is my Norge a lemon?
« on: April 17, 2016, 03:27:34 PM »
I posted a while ago about the decision to replace the motor on my '13 Norge due to .... well, I'm not really sure. Initial problem was an oil leak then it was determined that the engine was burned up or run dry. Last August the red warning light was coming on intermittently and at the next stop it was leaking oil. I hauled it home and then to the dealer.  The dealer said once the red warning light comes on do not ride it. I picked it up (trailor) a few weeks ago and due to schedules I haven't been on it till today. At pick up we also had a discussion about not using the highest octane rating as this, too, was detrimental to this Guzzi motor. This morning after a maybe 15 minutes the red warning light appears and shortly later the oil can shows up on the dash! I stopped for a short while and you could see smoke rising from the bike which was from oil dripping onto the left header pipe. Abandoning my days ride I rode it the short distance back home and nothing happened. No red light or oil can. I'll call the dealer on Tuesday but could this MG be a lemon? There are over 15k miles on it.
Just wondering what you folks think.

At first blush, it sounds to me that your dealer is a lemon.

The fittings for the oil feed lines to the head came loose on my 2011 causing a pretty good oil leak and causing my oil light to come on intermittent at idle. That was at about 13,000 miles.

It's a fairly simple device. It shouldn't be too hard to work out what's wrong with it! If it has a new engine and it's leaking? Get them to find the leak and fix it. The oil can is more of a concern as that is indicating a pressure/delivery problem on the lubrication side.

What Chuck said. Sack your dealer.

If they really replaced the engine and it's got an issue immediately after it was on their hands, then they need to fix it. Or at least pay someone competent to fix it.

Take your repair receipt and the leaking bike back to them and politely but firmly insist they fix it...

We already had a very long thread riddled with much folklore and old wives tales about this very subject, for this very bike.
