Invercargills luckiest man!

He has to be a learner, going straight through an intersection like that, and he doesn't deserve to get away with it, but he does.

I wouldn't advise trying that a second time.

And the guy towing the trailer runs over his bike and keeps going.

After a quick analysis it looks like he had locked the rear brake in the beginning due to coming up to the stop sign too fast, then hits the paint stripe and goes way sideways, comes off the paint back onto pavement into a classic high-side.  It does look like the truck/trailer is pulling over (remember, they are driving on the "other" side of the road) to stop as it goes out of frame.

And, to more correctly re-state the old saying, this guy should NOT be buying any lottery tickets any time soon, 'cause he just used up his ENTIRE allotment of luck for the whole month!

He most likely needs new pants and underwear too.

Sweet Jesus!  He jumps right up and walks over to the bike.

The last couple of times I hit hard these last years, twice mountain biking & once on X-Country Skis, I laid there for a while before doing the - move the little finger - it's ok, now move the next finger - good, now move the next finger -working my way up to moving my arm, the rest of my body fearful of that stabbing pain that may come.

Of course that's after I lay there for a while waiting for some of the initial pain to go away.

The guy with the trailer likely saved that idiot's life. High sides usually end with the rider under the bike.

The guy with the trailer did swerve to dodge him. He even dodges the bike though I think the trailer got it.  (and he did stop) The news showed a slightly longer version of the video.

You can bet the rider got a really good bit of really useful riding experience there and then!

I saw the clip earlier, but the heading did not actually say it was in Invercargill. A course in defensive driving would not go amiss I feel.

Well, he was coming to a T intersection. It's hard for me to think he had any right of way. Probably looked up from his phone and thought, "Oh crap!"

It was a T intersection with a Stop sign. He was going far too fast and locked his rear wheel without apparently trying his front. And yes, in a way he did have to lay it down. If he hadn't at that rate of knots he would have ended up in someones living room.

I concur with your assessment Muzz (and may end up being forced to do one if the constabulary got involved).

By the by Muzz, are you down a sleeping bag?

Of the two I use, both are still there John. However, I don't see Lucy's green duck down one. I wonder if I used that last time I was down?

I think its a bit harsh to say he "doesn't deserve to get away with it". Would you rather he have been maimed or killed?
At least he gets to learn from a serious mistake without it seems serious consequences.

Well, you're right of course. He'll have stories to tell his grandchildren.. *if* he learned from this experience.

Of course I don't. He would have got a hell of a fright and certainly deserved that though!
