WTH is happening in England ??? Futbol content
« on: April 30, 2016, 03:04:03 PM »
OK you Brits , any of you guys bet on Leicester to even be in the Premier League championship game?
5000 to 1 odds that they would win the thing , if Leicester wins someone is gonna make some coin  Of course they still have to beat Manchester .

Well, it's complicated. Leicester is a club that has not spent much money. It's not terribly fashionable - that's an understatement. Think Peoria. It's in 'the Midlands' - not Chelsea. It's players are a right old mix, and their top scorer was playing lower league football until recently. The Italian manager has never really won anything, ever - but people say he's a nice guy. The opposition - Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea etc - have spent squillions and it hasn't done any good.

There is even a body of opinion that says this is Leicester's reward for finding the remains of King Richard 111 (1452-1485) under a car park a couple of years ago. If you don't believe it, google it!

A good story, yes?

As so often in sports, there's much more to it.
Such as Leicester's goalie is the son of one of Manchester United's legendary goalkeepers (known as the great Dane!). Now Junior only has to shut the door for those remaining three games, and the premiership is Leicester's, no matter what.

Well, I didn't make that bet - matter of fact, I didn't bet on anyone (and never do - I'm a professional in risk management!)

However, the guys covering the Formula 1 practice the other day mentioned that Tom Hanks is a fan of one of the better known teams - but that he put 10 pounds on Leicester at the start of the season! Like he needs the money...

Leicester's manager has a very different approach to his team. He discusses what went well in a game rather than the rsult. Fun, comradeship and respect for the team more than individuals. Got to be a factor IMHO
Oh and Jamie Vardy too

Not necessarily  -
Leicester tied against Manchester United today.
If Tottenham (no. 2 in the League) win all their remaining matches they will still not catch up if:
Leicester tie also their remaining two games, or have (at least) one win.

If Tottenham (no. 2 in the League) win all their remaining matches they will still not catch up if:
Leicester tie also their remaining two games, or have (at least) one win.

Indeed, the only way Leicester can lose it now is if Tottenham win their remaining 3 games and Leicester either lose both their remaining games, meaning Tottenham win by 1pt, or Leicester lose 1 and draw one, in which case there would be a tie on points, meaning Tottenham would win on goal difference (it's highly unlikely Leicester could catch up the goal difference at this point, especially if Tottenham win 3 games and Leicester only draw 1).

Realistically it's unlikely that Tottenham will win 3 out of 3, they'll probably lose or draw tomorrow plus Leicester should beat Everton next week at home.

The above according to my (LCFC season ticket holder) 20yr old Son who did place a bet on Leicester winning the title  :thumb:  - although unfortunately not at the 5000-1 odds at the beginning of the season.

Is the Jamie Vardy suspension over? Will he be able to play in the remaining games. Drinkwater got a Red Card yesterdays game and also gave the ref (Michael Oliver) a piece of his mind on the way off, same thing Vardy was suspended for. Hope they are not shooting themselves in the foot.

Tottenham meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight. If they don't win, the Premiership goes to Leicester.
If Tottenham do win there will be more nail-biting before it's settled.

Vardy will be back for the weekend home game, he got a 2 match suspension as (I think) did Drinkwater, meaning his season is finished.

Had it been Wayne Rooney or some other high-profile Man U. player in the same situation he probably wouldn't even have been sent off...

20 teams, play each other twice in the season so 38 games. 3 pts for a win, 1 pt for a draw, 0 pts for a loss. Team with the most points at the end of the season wins.

Season isn't over yet (2 games left) but Leicester have a 7 point lead with only 6 'available'.   :thumb:

Wish I'd put £200 on them, I'd be a millionaire...
