Double plate clutch life on 2v CARC bikes
« on: May 02, 2016, 07:21:24 AM »
The Stelvio clutch thread prompted me to ask owners of 2V Norges, 1200 Sports, and Breva 1100s .......... how many miles do you currently have on your two plater bikes running the original clutch?  I'm at nearly 63,000 miles, and the clutch appears to operate as good as new.  No slippage, even under heavy throttle, take up is good.  Out of 8-9 BMWs over several years, two needed clutch work.  The K1200RS at 41,000 miles (saturated with clutch slave cylinder hydraulic fluid) and R100GS at 70,000 miles, due to leaky rear main (or possibly tranny) seal.  Now at 147,000 miles and still good.  Supposedly BMW improved the replacement seals in the clutch area.

Bob? Why do you keep looking for things to worry about? As the saying goes " Whip it, Whip it, Real Good"! When it starts to slip? Worry about it. My guess? 100-150K miles given you aren't a flogger.....

It will get oiled and fail next week.
Or, it will crack a rivet and fail next week.
Or, ten years from now you will be wondering how long they last.

Anyone that 'knows' how long it will last, also has a good shot at a winning lottery ticket.

That's what I was looking for, Pete, an educated opinion from an experienced technician.

Thanks,

Bob

Well Bob.....My '07 Norge with 58K miles is doing very well with its original clutch (knocking on wood ;-) ), my '03 EV with 50K miles just had a new clutch installed.
