I'm sick of the B11 pinging...
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:41:05 PM »
So I'm tired of being scared that the breva is pinging (which it is every now and then), and it's affecting my ability to ride the bike as it should be ridden.

I also found out on a group ride a few days ago that the bike is blowing a short cloud of black smoke when I go WOT. obviously the fuel map that I got put in there isn't working right.

I know all the steps and the hardware that go into using GuzziDiag, I have the software and TunerPro and just need to buy the cables plus the hookups.

The question is, does anyone have any maps that I could try? If you do, please let me know here or in PM. I'd like to try and solve this issue without going the GuzziTek way ($$$$)

Cheers

The bike pings on premium fuel?  90 (RON+MON)/2, or higher octane ???

Guessing you searched this forum?  I think way back KevM and others had this issue.  I am not sure there was a cure or resolution that was $ rather than $$$$?

I'm aware of Kev's odyssey and it required the guzzitek reflash with a PCV if I'm not mistaken. I'm just wondering if there's any other maps out there that work.

My fix was JUST a custom Guzzitech reflash with the 02 sensor shut off (so without a PCV).

Unfortunately I don't have it anymore (nor does my little brother so I'm sorry we can't examine it for you.)

What Paul said. Check your valves and balance your throttle bodies then PM me.

In standard form the B11, as a rule, won't misbehave much unless something isn't right or one of the 'Untouchables' has been touched.

Has this bike been changed from stock? It makes a difference so please be honest. Loud pipes and/or rock strainer air filters will screw things up appreciably.

My 2007 Griso 1100 also suffered from ping, no matter what octane fuel you ran. At the time (2011) the fix was a ECU reflash, PC5, Autotune and an empty bank account. I couldn't in good conscience spend $1,100 on fueling issues for bike with a value of not too many times more.

This was one of the major factors that lead to me selling the bike.

You remember my bike. It came down to a single Guzzitech reflash to fix it.

It had the detonation drowned by gross overfuelling. I can explain that but it would be described as 'Dealer Bashing' so I won't.

Well, again, I never had the opportunity to examine the map BUT I had evidence that the fix involved BACKING OFF on some of the fueling (in the higher rpm/throttle positions) as after the reflash my mileage didn't suffer and actually INCREASED when I was heavy with the throttle.

I WAS TOLD that he also took timing advance out of certain places.

I do wish Jay had pulled the MAP before selling it.

Old trick that costs almost nothing is to put a "spark gap"  in the plug wire. Was available from JC Whitney in yester year for a buck or two??  Can make for nearly nothing. Retards spark a degree or two. Mostly used to keep plugs from fouling in old oil burning engines (modern high voltage ignition systems remedy this issue). Gap should be the same or less than the plug gap. Rube invented this so it must be admired, right???

have you considered what rpm your at when going WOT? I can make mine do that when i'm under 2250 rpm and too high a gear...went out and tried it after reading your post...huuummpft! I can make it ping..drop two gears, go to 4k rpm, and launch...no pinging there, but then no experience with the 1100 myself
