Agreed.  If current 850 LeMans prices are making you wonder if it's "for real", you must have been living under a rock for the last few years.

Two weeks ago a 78 le mans in same good condition was for sale in NH for 11 k
A month ago on MGNOC a 78 le mans that was "ran when parked" was for sale for 6 k ( it needed works )

I just see bike sold for a reasonable price and others that are not ........

That's all .

Of course Moe sells bikes for 40 k .... right ? but i have never seen one of them be sold on e bay because they never hit the reserve price..... go figure lol

...and good for you ( Cam ) that you know everything.....  I am going back under my rock lol

Wow, Nice ! It kinda makes me wonder when the value of the later Tonti Le Mans like my 85 is going to go up......Oh well, the darned thing is so much fun to ride, I dont care if it appreciates or not, its the fun factor that really matters when its all said and done!

Like BigBike Rick, I also think that my LM (1) is a joy to ride. ( just got back from a spin on Highway 1 in Nor Cal where I live), and as pleased  as I am that the bike's value is increasing, getting to have one to ride is far more important to me at least at this time

Take it easy Arveno, it's just a euphemism.  I know you don't REALLY live under a rock.  Man, some guys panties bunch up so easily...

Oh, BTW pristine V7 Sports and 1000S' are expensive too.

My customer has a buyer for his '78 at $14k. I should have bought (and kept) the '78 I looked at for $800 back in '83.

And it didn't meet reserve, which I will take a guess is at least $14K.

Finding an original Le Mans in such great condition and all correct is a rare opportunity.

There have been a fair number of riders and projects between $6K ~ $10K in the past couple years but they would need another $4K ~ $8K to get them into top shape.

IMHO $14K would be a fair value for that bike. As the Ducati round case 750's and their bigger siblings climb into the stratosphere the desirable Guzzi's are going to catch their draft and climb accordingly.

In another 5 years the V7 Sport and first generation Le Mans will be making $20K + and original examples will go for more.

I read the part about 'in storage for years' meaning it would need a lot of sorting out, and fuel lines and tires would need replacing. So $14k seems a lot to pay....a ready to ride LM III for $7 - 8k sounds more sensible.

One question , if something is sold no reserve , why put in a starting bid ? Seems contradictory.

Because he sets the bottom price accordingly or would not dare go no reserve .  Beyond that it's sold.  It makes folks think it's possible they can get it at a bargain as $11000.00 is a bargain (currently).

But by definition doesn't no reserve mean there isn't a minimum price ? I understand the concept , it is a bit of misdirection , like pre-owned VS used .

Just a question, if a Mk1 and a Mk2 Le Mans were of equal market value, is one a better bike than the other ? I'm not trying to start an argument 'cos I really would like to know. I bought a completely original Mk 2 here in Oz for tidy up restoration and paid AUD $ 10,000 for it, a Mk 1 in identical condition would have been 14,000. Does that seem about the same values relatively speaking to each other as would be in the States ? Also the motor starts and runs perfectly with no wrong noises  at all, and is nice to ride. The engine will be coming out of the frame for tidying up work, is there a certain number of things I should do before I re register it ? I would imagine apart from the glaringly obvious like Tappets, Oil change filter clean/replacement, brakes dismantle clean etc.... there would be some preventative maintenance measures that would be a good idea since it's out on the bench. Thank you. Huzo.

Kind of a "trick question" here in the US since we never officially got the Le Mans 850 II. Instead we got that chassis with an SP engine installed and called the CX100.

the difference between the two is basically the fairing, so your question should be; do i like fairings?
i love my le mans 2 for doing fast highway trips, even in the rain you can comfortably cruise at 100 miles/hour for hours.
the fairing is amazingly effective.
doing the same on a V7sport or a le mans 1 is pretty knackering.
around town any le mans is a handfull.

about the maintenance bit, make sure the carbs are well cleaned they tend to gum up when not used regularly

Opening bid and reserve price are two different things.

At any auction you go to, you'll hear "and the bidding for this item starts at...."

I see what you're thinking, though.  An opening bid could work the same as a reserve price.

When I used to Ebay stuff, I toyed with the reserve thing, but noticed I had fewer buyers.  I switched to using an opening bid and "no reserve", and the interest in my auctions went way up.  Human nature, I guess.

I think he's referring to the 1st and 2nd series WITHIN the 850 Lemans.  Never officially referred to as Mk1 and Mk2.  The first "series" 850 LeMans had a different tail light built into the fender, and a different seat that quickly fell apart.  These seem to bring more money than the '77-'78's.

There seems to be a little contradiction between the 2 ads. In the Ebay listing there's this...
"Q: Is it a runner?
A: yes put in new battery, cleaned carbs, changed oil, it immediately started right up and it sounds real strong, all lights work fine, this bike is a one owner and is completely stock and original"
In the CL ad it says this...
"Machine was running when stored"
Which one is it I wonder?
