Next step for updating my V50-III
« on: May 19, 2016, 10:13:47 AM »
My jetting is close so I'm switching to guns -- ignition that is.

I purchased a C5 optical-trigger with special coils and leads.  Funny thing is talking to Paul at C5 he stated that mine will be the first V50-III setup he's sold in the US.  Must be a BMW/Mercedes is better mindset thing I've seen among Americans for decades  So I'm going to be a bit of a Test Case but it won't be the first time.  I've been putting aftermarket ignition systems on bikes / cars since the 70's.  The kit should arrive tomorrow just in time for a little weekend project Guzzi work.

My revised jetting is pretty good but having spent a lot of money getting a Chemistry Degree that I don't use got me thinking.

Has anyone retrofitted a wide band Oxygen-Sensor like a Innovative Motorsports LM-1 to a Carb'd bike to fine tune the jets?  I've had bikes in the past dyno-tuned and I estimate it will cost me around $450 to get the little V50 done.  Now a new "toy" that I can use on other Carb'd bikes might be the a better idea.  I know I'll have to have bungs put in the V50 headpipes but that doesn't really bother me.  The overall cost should be about the same as a dyno-tune for the first bike and much less for those coming after.

Indiana Guzzi legend Harold Beck did that several years ago. Said it worked fine.
