first night with the strange stoplight
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:46:17 AM »
Well, I finally got around to putting the stop line light on the bike and took it out for a spin.  It is silly but I think I like it.  Cars at stoplights were 3-4 feet further back than normal. I even had two LEO's stopped behind me on separate occasions and neither said anything.  I made sure it was lit because i was curious what they would say.
The light is not bright enough to be useful in daylight, but it shows up nicely at night.
For those of you that missed the previous topic what this is is a milli-watt laser that paints a red line across the lane behind the bike to hopefully get cars to stop a little further back.
The theory is that american drivers are so brainwashed to not cross a line that they will stop before this line. I don't know if I buy in to that theory, as I see people drive over lines all the time, but maybe because they are not used to this one it will work.
I wired it in with a switch so that I can select it to work either with the tail light or the brake light.  So far I have just run it with the brake light.

First two pictures are on the sidestand so it is a bit akilter, the last picture is over my shoulder after I pulled in the garage.

Very interesting - please keep us updated - kudos to you.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Now only if they could add a second laser that blinds the person behind you if they cross the line!
Actually, I think that idea is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!

I forgot to mention, feel free to giggle or guffaw.  The light was only $8 on Amazon and I got it in a fit of whimsy.  At this point I plan on running it until the first LEO tells me I can't. (Or until I just get to embarrassed to keep it on lol)

What would be really cool would be if it had an articulated mount that moved the light further back at speed to keep a 3 second following distance.  I am thinking of adding a blink three times then steady circuit for when it comes on.

And of course now that I have one they dropped the price to $6.55 lol  (Click image to go to Amazon page)
Cheezy mount, nothing is weatherproof so goop will be required, but hey..  at that price..

That's a great idea !  Don't ride near an airport with it unless you want DHS breathing down your arse.

Here's a link (that works) to the anti-collision tail light on Amazon :

Maybe they make one using a green  laser? That would show up better in daytime use.

If it catches on with car drivers I wonder how it would look with a lot of cars so equipped. You might start a trend. You know all the kiddies who saw it will have to have one.

Seen some strange lights on vehicles around here, the glowing red and blue halo lights are showing up. Probably not legal but that never stopped the status seekers.

I would never have come up with "pew-pew-pew" for that and yet.... what would fit better.

Be careful, someone will confuse it with a express checkout lane at Safeway and simply drive through.

This to me could invoke a hostile response as an in your face thing for some, like "step over this line and see what happens".

But I'm an old guy, what do I know.
It's generally my experience that people looking for trouble are gonna find it regardless of what you do.

Me, I'm a; chips falling kinda guy.

So it's not just happening to me.

Depending on what zip code I enter sometimes the PRICE as well as the shipping changes.  Sneaky bastards.

Too bad it isn't integrated with a motion sensor so that it only comes on once a vehicle gets within a certain distance. A lot less likely to draw unwanted cop attention.

I like the bicycle ones that make your wheelsl looking like they are still spinning, even at stoplights.
Cross-traffic accidents notwithstanding ..... cool!

What is really needed is something that projects an image of a sink hole. That would take care of it.

Next time you go into a bank, notice the red line built into the carpet in front of the tellers.  Subliminal "stop here" line.
