intake noise stoopid question
«

ok, here goes.
running both my calvin and my lemans 1000 with k&N pod filters...
why is the intake noise so much louder on the cali than the lemans?
is it just the difference in displacement? is the air getting sucked through a smaller diameter inlet manifold?
just the kind of question that pops into the mind on the long runs.
(ps FWIW the stock airbox will probably be going back on the cali at some point when I'm next feeling like spending a day testing my zen and swearing at a piece of plastic)

Smaller carbs on calli make air move faster ? Or body work covering filters on the lm1000 masking noise

The better wind protection allows you to hear more engine noises .
I hardly noticed the intake noise on my T-3 before I added the National Cycle Plexifairing .

wind protection nahhhh, you can hear the difference at a standstill...
intake noise is of a completely different character on the cali, more of a honking thwapthwapthwap (technical term)
I'm going for the smaller throttle bodies, unless anybody has a more plausible theory..
is it correct that the calvin has smaller diameter tbs and manifolds than older FI guzzis? eg. v11 sport?

Placement of the intakes maybe, I'm not sure about the Le Mans but that's under and a little behind. The Cali has the intake up under the front of the tank.
The noise you hear is a product of the suction, and the reverberation of the intake system. It reminds me of the noise a high RPM 4 cyl car makes such as a Vtec honda or 4age Toyota.

Well, what's wrong with a little intake music??
Maybe you just need louder mufflers!
If it bothers too much, why not re-install the airbox instead of changing the throttle bodies!

Two completely different forms of air/fuel management. No Venturi effect with a simple butterfly valve, all it does is pass air. A carburettor has to do lots of stuff, usually badly...

ahh yes, venturi, could be part of it...
FWIW I'm a fan of both carbs and injection. each for different reasons..
while you're here pete, any truth in the intakes and TBs being narrower on the later guzzis? they changed from intake gaskets to an o-ring somewhere along the line no?, did the heads tbs and the intakes change at that point?
