Cali 14 display warning -- what does it mean?
« on: May 22, 2016, 06:10:19 PM »
The digital display is showing the image of a wrench (identified in the manual as the "service key" indicator). Just had the 6000 mile service done a couple of hundred miles ago. No other info offered, and no warning lights are on. I assume this means I need to go to the dealer to have the fault code identified.

Not a fault code per-se. Just an indication you need service. You went to dealer too early. If it had been on when you went he would/should have cleared it. Since I did my own service, it was on my dash from 6K til 15K when I sold my C14.

You can re-set it yourself. (I don't know how to do that on your bike, but I had to do it on my Norge after taking it in a little early for its first service.)

Thanks MT and Jeff -- I brought it in at 6000 miles, and the counter undoubtedly calculates in kilometers.

Unfortunately the factory has not seen fit to release the dashboard service code for the Cali 14. I believe it was because some dealers were shitty about the earlier bikes codes getting out because they wanted to charge exorbitant sums for turning the service warning off . There is a code, I know it but if I were to publicise it it would get me into seven shades of shit! Like the earlier bikes it allows you access to the OBD and allows you to turn off the service icon. It makes things a whole lot easier but........ (Shrug?)

I have no idea if this would work but I know it works on older Chevy's. Disconnect the battery for a few hours and then re-connect. Or, after disconnecting the battery, touch the positive cable to the negative cable. Did this for my neighbor on his Chevy and he thought I was some kind of genius.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. Since I now know it's not a real issue, no problem. Next time I have occasion to be at my dealer, I'll have him turn it off, or otherwise, I'll just ignore it.
