good route Houston to San Antonio...
« on: May 25, 2016, 09:51:45 PM »
Hi Texas riders,

I have a brother in law who lives in Bulverde, TX.  That is north of San Antonio.  I live in Sugar Land, a SW burb of Houston.  Anyway, my next riding goal is to ride the V7R over to Bulverde. Don't want to drone on I-10, it sucks.  Another parallel route is Hwy 90, lots of little towns, less traffic, but not real exciting. Maybe hwy 71, then 21 into New Braunfels and then Bulverde?  Does anyone have a "fun" suggested route that includes at least one good stop for lunch?  About 200 miles, so I will need at least one long stop, preferably two.

Plan on an early morning start, and spend two or three nights.  There are some great roads around San Antonio Hill country, BIL knows them all.  Need some more settled weather without the big fronts though....

thanks!

Slightly more backroads out of Fayetteville:

Once you're there...a nice ride up thru Boerne (stop at the Boerne Wine Company and say hello to Jean-Yver...courtesy of yours truly)...have him pour you a glass of Palmaz Cabernet!  A ride up from there to Sisterdale, Luckenbach, and I presume you'll hit the 3 Twisted Sisters as well over the few days).  16 dropping south out of Kerrville is great...the Lone Star Motorcycle museum near Vanderpool is a must stop as well!

ENJOY!!

When you hit San Marcos, go RR12 to Devil's Backbone to Canyon Lake Area to River Road to Bulverde(I think). Nice Area to ride.

Katy, Bellville, Industy, Fayetteville, side trip to Royer's for pie in RoundTop, then look for river and creek roads to finish.  I think going S. of I10 works once you get W. of Fayetteville.  But - West of San Antonio is where the good stuff lies.  Have fun.
