Moving on. LeMans IV to good home.
« on: May 31, 2016, 03:38:41 PM »
Like a few others who've posted recently, it's been hard to accept but after 45 plus years riding, I'm just not any more.  The LeMans IV is parked in the garage where it's been since about December and it's time to let go.  I rode less than 1,000 miles last year and before that did one 650 mile day the year before, then just some around town blasts.

Need to clean it up, check that everything is ok then I'll post it here.  Bought it in '87 from Stan in Gainesville with 3,000 miles on it, 45,000 or so now.  Has a few mods, here's a teaser pic.  Two seats, various spares, etc.  Complete list to follow.  Don't want to list it locally but would rather have a WG member adopt it.

When you decide on a figure shoot me an email.  If I can't swing it I have a friend who had a LeMans many years ago and he has been looking.

It seems like having it that long makes it a bit of an heirloom.  No kids, grandkids, nieces to pass it along to?  I bought my old favorite in '78 and can't imagine selling it.  Ok -- I can imagine selling it -- I can't imagine anyone buying it.

That is a beautiful bike Tobit. Are you done riding it or done riding?

That is a beautiful bike Tobit. Are you done riding it or done riding?

I think it's more the former and some of the latter.  Very involved with family and teens right now, everywhere I go I'm running an errand or playing taxi.  In a few years the kids will be out of high school and off to college but I'll be 60+ and the LM IV, magnificent as it is, begs for a different rider than I've become.  Wife and I agree I'll have another bike but time will tell.  I've put less than 1,000 a year on it for the last ten years so it's not being used properly.  If I do move on to another bike after a while when tuition payments are over it will be something suitable for comfortable weekend getaways with the Mrs. which a LeMans IV is not.

Addressing the "heirloom" post above, no, there isn't anyone to pass it on to.  Daughter is sort of interested in motorcycles but is 16 and wouldn't be on this one for a lot more years.  She's keen on a Softail Deluxe anyway.  Son isn't leaning toward riding as he's totally involved with school, wrestling, Scouts and focusing on the Naval Academy and Marines.

Good luck with the sale. It is a desirable bike, you should have no problem selling it.

everywhere I go I'm running an errand

I am 67+ and counting. Since I retired at the end of last year I am using the Baby B. for a lot of errands; helping my son out in his business I find it ideal to scoot off for parts etc.

Again, it is ideal for that sort of thing. I would suggest looking at one of the V7 incarnations. At the last Guzzi rally here johnr's bike decided it did not want to participate. We both ended up on the Breva; John drove and I rode pillion. He was amazed at just how easily it carted some 200kg's of people around.

Hook up a chair.  You can do the errands and have more carrying capability.
