If you are traveling I5 in California

A sink hole took out the freeway with traffic being detoured to a double lane country road. Avoid it.

It's the northbound side. That means all major traffic (it is the major Interstate in Ca going from LA north gets detoured before hitting the Bay Area. This will go on for days.

If you get stuck northbound, don't bother, turn around.

On a motorcycle this will be nothing short of brutal and temps are near or exceeding 100 and headed up.

Your Guzzi might be overcooled but it isn't overcooled that much.

Actually, just avoid I-5. Anytime. Ever. For almost the entire state, there are so many much better motorcycling alternatives...

Yep, if I never see I5 again it will be a blessing.

Try it on the Sunday after Christmas or Thanksgiving.  At least I was in an RV and had my own bathroom :)

I don't have much choice but to get on the 5 for a while when going to Angeles Crest. Lane splitting is a wonderful thing..

First thing I would say is if you're on a motorcycle, I5 is the last road you want to be on. Plenty of two lane alternatives that are devoid of traffic and lots of fun.

But if you just have to get from LA to the Bay area in a short time, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just take 152 from 5 to 101 or vice versa if you're going south. The sinkhole is much farther north so you shouldn't be impacted.

If you need to go through there to get to Sacramento or further north, 99 would be an alternative although I suspect many other people will be using it as well.
