Old age confusion and winter blues.
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:24:15 AM »
So I woke up at about 6:30 this morning.  Not really enough sleep I thought but I felt OK.

Did all the normal morning stuff and settled down to the computer with a coffee and a smoke to check emails and think about what I was going to do with the day.

I don't consider a day to have started until the sun gets itself up anyway.

It was a very dark morning though. It often is this time of year if there is a heavy overcast. By 9:30 it struck me that there should be some light by now and I went outside to see. It was overcast and dark.  I went back inside and didn't give it much further thought.

Later in the morning, at about 11:30, it struck me that this was a bit unusual and again went outside to look. Yep, it was cloudy alright but there were a few rents in the cloud that I could see through.

Something wasn't right. It was still dark. I'm at 42 degrees latitude. You have to be higher than 60 to get a mid day darkness. Some boxes were distinctly without ticks.

I hadn't heard the bang of either Taupo or similar super Volcanoes   going off so that only left one possibility.  You guessed it! I had slept through to 6:30 PM

Damn!

You're a lucky guy, John.

I sure wish I could have a night like that.....seems like the older I get, the more I crave sleep, but the less able I am to sleep. Hell, 3 straight hours of sleep has become a rarity.

I've done the same thing....waking up 12 hours later than my get-up time for work and scrambling for 20-25 minutes to get ready to go to work...IN THE EVENING !

That's no good.
May I recommend Meletonin supplements. All natural and no side effects or interactions. A 1.3mg one about 20 minutes before you want to sleep is all you need.  I used to use these but they were costing more than I could afford. It was cheaper for me to get  prescription sleeping tablets. (Which I have long since run out of!) I would prefer the Meletonin though, it's more gentle.

If that doesn't work I suggest a talk with your Quack about it.

You are right there Dusty. I decided to stay up but no doubt I will end up napping on the couch later in the day. Er.... no herbal supplements at this time.

Well yes, but when a whole day disappears on you there is a strange sense of loss.
The silly thing is that my rhythms seem to be attuned to a 36 hour day!

I was listening to the radio this morning when there was a message sent in by an insomniac, "Only four more sleeps till Christmas".

I may stay in bed a bit longer since I have retired John but that one beats me!

John,

Have not done that since traveling and working back and forth to Libya with 9 hour jet lag.

Anyway, hope your rhythm returns.  Since retirement I sleep much better, typically 11 pm to 7 am-- no alarm clock needed.
Poodles get me up no matter what.
