How do I replace the petrol filler cap. Cali 1100 '95?
« on: June 01, 2016, 08:38:13 PM »
Hi, my 95 Cali's petrol cap, apart from having no key is half rusted where the chrome has given in  , but I have a second hand mint one to replace it with. I've had it for months in fact, but can't figure out how to take the old one off and refit the replacement one.
I might be being dimwitted, but I can't find anything online that describes the procedure. It looks as if it would be easy if I knew how.
Any help or pointing in the right direction would be much appreciated.

cheers

You're asking about the key lock?
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Open the cap. Look at where the cap hinges - there's a small flat piece that extends from the hinge pin that hooks over another pin parallel with the top surface of the tank. Lift up on the small flat piece to unhook it from the pin and slide the cap away from the filler opening.

In this photo, the piece you need to lift up on is on the far right, with the "hooks" on it.
