What's in a name
« on: June 25, 2016, 04:43:05 PM »
Can anyone tell me where the name "wildgoosechase" came from in our forum title. I have a good friend in England who is heavily involved in the Guzzi movement there and she tells me that her mother's maiden name was Wildgoose.

Huso,

Colloquial saying.
A saying that in the states "going on a "wild goose chase" is a dead end inquiry or search for something that may (probably) be futile, impossible or frivolous!

:-)
Yeh, same here.

Not in relation to the forum, but its widely held that the phrase "A Wild Goose Chase" was introduced into the English language by William Shakespeare

Romeo & Juliet Act 2 Scene 4

The word Wildgoose (in reference to me) derived from about 1977 as my CB handle. My dad would let me talk to truckers when traveling with him and my CB handle  was 'Goosebump'.

I chose 'Goose' as my call sign when I was in the Air Force (actually, "Blue 14" was my call sign while stateside, but overseas we got to choose more cool names). Anyhow, on a mission in early 1991, I was doing something that our Chief labeled as "wild".  He announced over the air that from that moment on, I was to be called 'Wildgoose' and not 'Goose'. It has kind of stuck with me since.

When I built this site in 1998, I thought it would be a cool name to keep using.

Yup.  I've been known to tell it a time or two.  Mo-Kan is on my radar so far.  Been a rally poor last couple of years for me. Seems all I have time to do is work.
