Hey, isn't there supposed to be a bolt in that hole?
« on: June 28, 2016, 02:42:27 PM »
Sat down next to my V7 to have lunch today. While I'm chomping away I notice a hole where there is supposed to be a bolt.

Right below the right side cover the swing arm bolt is completely gone and the other side is finger-tight. I always hear of needing to retighten the MG bike bolts, should have known better. So scary…

Is the pivot pin itself gone, or just the larger securing screw that covers it?

Either way, it's nice to notice and fix it before the swing arm lets loose.

My motorcycle mentor encouraged sitting down next to your bike with a beer in hand and staring at it periodically.

The bike, not the beer.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

One day while sat staring at my V7 with tea in hand wife says what you doing, I say looking at my bike, she says you've had it long enough to know what it looks like, I say yes will you turn it round so I can see it from the other side. She shakes her head and walks off. Steve.

Nothing to do with the swingarm there? What part are you talking about?

Looks like he's talking about the frame cross member.

Righto. That's a security cap. It's massive and it's there to keep the actual swingarm pivot screw from backing out, and also protect the screw from weather/filth/corrosion. If the swingarm pivot comes loose, you're screwed.  In the drawing here, the pivot screw is B, the cap nut is A. It's the pivot screw that actually engages a hole in the frame, or maybe the engine/transmission case.

Not that, the hole above that. It's a bolt that holds the rear of the trans in place.

Looks like that goes into the top of the transmission case.  Is there a similar hole on the other side?  Is it empty too?  If not, it's not a through-pin.

In the first post he said the one on the other side was finger tight.

there is supposed to be a bolt there, but all it does is hold the top half of the bike to the bottom half. Id be looking for a replacement before bad things happen.
