Paging Guzzisteve.
« on: June 30, 2016, 08:51:18 PM »
Steve, I've got a Cali 14 in thats loom has been gnawed by rats. Its throwing up an unclearable error stating that its safety file is full, (This is the stored data file, error code P0611. Now I can't seem to clear it by downloading it to the PC through PADS which makes me think there may be further damage but I haven't been able to speak to the Tech boy at the importer, (Snort!) and am currently downloading the incredibly cumbersome PDF manual but I though I'd ask if you have had any experience with downloading this stored data and clearing the cache?

Sorry, I didn't see this Pete.  I haven't dug into PADS that deep on the CAli 14. It should clear w/down loading I think. Unless it is filling up constantly and can't clear. PADS also still has some glitchs.
You might have it sorted by now.
Could it be picking up the wiring fixes?

The manual I have (1st one) doesn't say anything just that the safety level2 has reset the engine.

I may be talking out of turn here but, this is my 2 cents worth. Any OBD code that starts with P0 is a generic code, P1*** is manufacturer specific. P0611 is a communications error between the fuel injector control module and the ECM. Does this bike have a separate injector module?

Not out of turn at all Joe. I'll take help wherever I can get it! the problem is that it's telling me there is a communications error when I'm trying to clear the cache. It might be I'm attempting stuff in the wrong order, you know how pedantic PADS can be. It's not affecting the bike's running in any way and there is no dashboard alert. I just don't like the fact it's still there and won't clear. I fear it may be rodent related! :violent1:

Just a supplementary on this. Problem sorted.

If you get the P0611 error because the safety file is full the manual, (Pages 113-115.) is spectacularly unhelpful. You can seemingly carry out the instructions and the fault will remain active.

The solution is to download the file. Then go back and undertake the 'EPROM Reset' function. This will immediately give you the 'Urgent Service' warning because it has cleared the throttle and handle learning parameters but if you then go into the adjustments page and carry out the 'Throttle self Learning' and 'Handle self learning' procedures the error vanishes and the Urgent Service warning is eradicated!

Problem solved. Bike runs like a champ. Owner now needs to rat-proof his bike!

Glad you got it sorted Pete.  I'm done w/it all, retired. Last bike goes out this week. Someone else can sort out the crap. Not driving 120mi a day in ATL traffic anymore.
Real glad I don't have to deal w/modern electrics & all the crap you don't need on a bike. OR the folks who need that crap.

I'm not far behind you Steve. Another couple of years and I'll be done.

I really don't mind the electronics, although I find stuff like Tri-map and electronically controlled suspension gimmicky rather than useful. What pisses me off is the lack of clear instruction on its troubleshooting and maintenance. The manuals are written in gibberish and when asking the people who are supposed to *Know* and be able to assist it's obvious they're even more in the dark than me! Very frustrating.

Anyway, enjoy your retirement. Work sucks!
