tempted by a 2012 Harley ultra......
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:27:44 PM »
Well, one of riding buddies, my brother has a 2012 ultra, something something, that he offered to me.  He bought new, and has been adding farkles, some new chrome do-dad every month it seems.  Anyway, he calls me and says he is selling his Harley, not time to ride and all that jazz, wanted to see if I was interested.

Its very clean, 12k miles as I remember, new tires and just had it serviced.  It sure is pretty, shiny, and big.

I pondered over it, talked it over with the wife, but I ultimately decided it wasn't something I really needed.  No place to keep it, the Guzzi has a place in my small shed, nothing else would fit.  I was tempted due to the wife's back, thought it would be better for her to get on and off.

Then I thought of the weight in comparison to the Breva, and the sheer size.  The way I ride, the Breva fills the niche very nicely.

The Ultra rides very well, smooth once under way, and surprising quick for such a big machine.  I guess I just didn't like the forward controls and sitting position.  If I was doing 500 miles days on a regular basis, maybe, but I just really like the way the Guzzi runs, feels, and I don't see myself at every intersection.  Scarcity is part of the reason I bought a Guzzi, but now I realize how much I  enjoy it.

I suppose I should have bought it, thats what the wife sad.  Always wanted one, but now after 8years with the Breva, my tastes have changed.

Yeah, I can see it both ways, because I have an 09 Ultra. On the road, above 5 mph, it is simply magic, like riding in a Cadillac. Pretty decent handling, too.

But at a stop, it's pretty much a two-wheeled truck. Only good thing is that if it falls, it won't go all the way over due to the crash bars, front and rear.

A stock Harley is a very pleasant machine.

My Wife has long not been comfortable on some of the Guzzis that we have owned...  a couple of years ago I told that she is only going to be comfortable on a Gold Wing or a Harley and I'm not buying a Wing.

On the test ride of the one we bought she leaned in a said "You're gonna buy this thing aren't you...?"

2004 EV Touring...

2013 Harley Electra Glide Classic...

I wanted to find an Electra Glide Standard as that model had  less bling however, by  2013 HD had stopped that model.  I also did not need the Ultra version.  We are digging this rig...  Excellent comfort, cruise and a radio to listen to the Rad Sox, NPR and Joe Bonamassa...!

Best,
Rob

I too was asked to purchase another Ultra Classic for ride comfort and radio. Yeah...I though about it. lol.

For me, there's lots of bikes with age but less than 30k miles. So for 8500 USD I got one. I let other spend the big bucks for the braggin' rights of the newest stuff. I ride them later and not worry about resale value.
