B-25 ride NGC
« on: July 05, 2016, 12:14:52 PM »
Has anyone been on board of a B-25 Mitchell? I'm asking as we're planning to book our brother on a ride for his 50th next September. Is it worth the about 400$ they're asking? What's it like compared to for example a ride in aB-17 of which I've only heard positive reports? I'd like to hear if anyone has first hand experience before booking.

I have flown  a B25 and yes its a hoot. Its a small aircraft but it will be noisy and fun.
May I ask who or what organization owns it?

I flew in a B-17 this spring, was a hoot! Worth every dollar. I would think the B-25 would be also. It has the same engines as the B-17, just two less. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Our local boys have distinctly different seating options from nose to top turret, I think radioman and in the rear by the side ports. The various seats need take physical condition in mind and then visual reward after that. Nose if physically capable is the place to be!

I went up in the Collings Foundation's B-17 a few years ago. They also have a B-24 and B-25. $400+ and **WELL** worth it. Photos on the B-17 thread. 17's a luxury wide-body compared to the others.

Thanks for the answers, gents. Based on what I hear we're going to book him on a flight. It so nicely happens that it will be his actual birthday, so I guess this time too he'll come out wet and screaming.
Kirby, it's the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run, Michigan.

One of our guys in Mojave bought one and had it for a while. I got a check out and would take people up in it. (no charge).

He traded it for a PBY and I think it belongs to a guy near Atlanta now. It was a hoot and unusual 'cause no nose wheel steering, just rudder, differential power and brakes, interesting.
The A 26 ..much better and much faster with CB17's (DC 6 engines and props.)
I would recommend a ride in the 25, its history! (any of the WII machines are worth while and the price is reasonable as the cost of maintaining these A/Cs is quite high.)
