Dead 2012 Stelvio... Help?
« on: July 05, 2016, 12:15:33 PM »
So I rode it two days ago. Worked perfectly.

This morning I changed the left side exhaust gasket at y pipe.

Tried to start it afterwards. Turn key and..... NOTHING. no click, no dash, no fuel pump. The only thing that powers up is the 12V outlet.

Checked every fuse I know of. (under clocks, behind right side cover and right side by battery) all removed tested and reinserted.
All good.

Battery shows 12.8V, cleaned posts etc.
Even tried to boost.

Out of ideas now......

Anyone?

Could it be such a simple thing as a loose battery cable?
Mine did, was totally dead. And I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong...

LOL  kill switch is good.   Also would not stop dash from coming up.  Battery terminals cleaned and tight.

As it turns out I just found the problem.

The cable that connects to the underside of the starter had been disturbed when I removed the starter cover in order be able to move the header far enough to get the header out of the Y pipe and replace the gasket. The wires that go to the 02 sensor are connected to the inside of the cover limiting the amount I could move the header.
This connection to the bottom of the starter had failed when removing the cover.

And we have a winner. Give that guy a prize from the bottom row.

About 18 years ago I was going through the exercise figuring out why my Cali would not start. Had the sidecover off to look at the fuses when I realized something was odd. The sidestand was down and this simply disables the starter circuit.

Once again, the main cause of Guzzi failures, either air gap as in this case, or lack of ground (another form of airgap)  other than that, dead reliable
