2007 griso blank dash ????

I bought this bike recently, it had some minor front end damage.  I got everything taken care of and started riding.  The only problem was I had to input the 5 digit 00000 code every time I wanted to start the bike (pita).  I took it to an old reliable dealer and he installed a new ignition switch/antenna assy and a new dash.  Now the bike starts and runs great without inputing codes.  But, the dash is blank, no headlamp and no turn signals.  The needle used to sweep and warning lights come on when the key switch was operated and now NOTHING  he has given up and this is WAY above my pay grade.  I don't know much history of the bike but things worked well before and not now.  Any ideas or help is MUCH appreciated.  Thx, Dave.

The indicators are controlled by the dashboard, not entirely sure about the headlight but the fact that it is related to whether the engine is running would make me think that it is using the phase sensor signal via the dash, the fact that the LCD screen is not operations also points to a faulty dash.

Try unplugging it and thoroughly cleaning the pins and plug. After that it's time to grab a multimeter and start back probing the loom but it sounds like a dud dashboard.

If you still have the old dash, you might try it again to see if results are different.

I tried the old dash and same results.  Where does the power/signal for the dash come from ???  Is it the ECU or from a 12v supply in the harness.  The dealer thought someone had altered the ECU previously.

It looks to me as though the dash gets 12V from inputs 11, 21 & 31 from the ignition switch
Check also the ground on pin 16 it may be loose where it's attached to the chassis.

I'd be surprised if the wire on pin 16 doesn't go back to the battery

I agree this seems like a dash failure, because of the combination of symptoms.

Since the old dash used to work OK and now doesn't, to me that points to the new ignition switch, and/or connectors surrounding it, not feeding the ECU, err dash, properly with power.

Thanks Moto, that's a great help.

I was wrong pins 11, 21 & 31 should have power all the time, it's pin 1 that comes on with the key.
I suspect pin 1 will have 12 Volts since the bike runs the wire going to 1 also goes to the injection relay.

Measure for Voltage on pin 16, there should be none since it's supposed to be ground that is the Negative for dash
I think you could also stuff a grounded wire in either 19 or 20

To reiterate, + 12 on Pin 1, -12 on Pin 16, 19 or 20
I realize it's hard to probe the small connector.
Unplug the dash and stuff 2 wires connected to a bulb in 1 and 16 of the socket, the lamp should light up, if it doesn't you have no power, pull the wire out of 16 and touch it on ground if it still doesn't light you have no power on 1 from the ignition switch.

Great, lots of good info.  I have a number of things to try.  This is the reason I like working on the older SIMPLER bikes.  It's just that the newer bikes are great fun when running right.

Previously, you said, "I tried the old dash and same results." Could you clarify, please, exactly what the other dash does? Does it have exactly the same symptoms you reported for the new dash? Namely:

If you get exactly the same results with both dashes, it isn't likely to be a dash problem (especially since I've never heard of exactly this set of symptoms before).

If there are any differences in symptoms between the two dashes, that could be helpful to know too. Best bet would be a systematic layout of symptoms for the two dashes, for example in a table.

Do you know anyone else with a Griso, perhaps you could try your dash out on another bike.

It's hard to imagine why the dash should quit,

Is it possible to measure the Voltage on the connector while it's plugged in?
I'm wondering if there's a fault dependent on the cable angle.
