Le Mans III front wheel axle spacer question
«

I'm changing the front tire on my 83 Le Mans III, and cannot remember the spacer orientation. The axle spacer on the right side of the front fork, has a tapered side, and a flat side. I think that the taper side is facing in, towards the bearing.
Can someone with experience on this confirm this?
Thanks.

Ok, so it's the spacer on the side closer to the Dino...

That spacer is common to LM1, 2(CX) and LM3. I have found them with the tapered side towards the wheel bearing , but have seen them installed both ways. Currently my LM 1 has it tapered side to the wheel bearing. After looking at parts diagrams for LM1, 2, and 3 i could not tell the difference as the illustrations are renderings and not photos. Cheers

I also put the tapered end toward bearing, that's how it was w/new. Now it is permanently in fork leg, wheel & axle, forks went into a Volvo.

Thanks guys, I thought that was the correct orientation, but could not remember. it make sense that the taper keeps a side load off of the bearing, more so than if the flat side is up against the bearing.
Wheels back on with fresh Michelin Pilot Active. Looking forward to trying these out.
