Handpresso - I want this so bad
« on: July 20, 2016, 06:19:45 PM »
OK, this would just be way too cool on those long bike trips and at rally's.  Think of fresh brewed quality espresso at the rest stop or in the tent in the morning.,...

I have one and have had for several years....did not give big money for it.  You have to shop around because they can be found much cheaper.

Coffee is great and quick but depends on brand of coffee as always.  The other key is preheating the unit with hot water before using.  Very simple clean up and great for travelling, which is why we bought it - used to have the old aluminum pot (electric).

This is well worth it and we have used it alot. Just used this week when our power went out at home.

If you get one, you'll have to go out and buy a matching Ducati.

I figured those "nice resorts" would have expresso in the restaurant. Why not stop at Starbucks?

I've read mixed reviews too. I recommend an AeroPress, for trips and at home. $30. You might try that first, if you haven't.

I have an aeropress, too.  It is great.  All you need is hot water!

Try the Minipresso https://www.wacaco.com/ I use the one that takes the Caffitaly pods but they will have a Nespresso version soon. My son-in-law has the one that takes grounds and loves it for work and camping. They have a larger water tank available which I recommend. Less than $100 for both.

Some of the hard core enthusiasts seem to be liking the Portaspresso Rossa PG.

It has a schrader valve, you attach whatever kind of tire pump you want.  It's more expensive.  Apparently Australian.

The lady of the house likes her Aeropress, for travel and occasionally at home.

Aeropress for home. Minipresso for the road.

I leave the big Saeco espresso maker for my wife to play with.

Well, why not a Jet Boil with the coffee press. Not only can you make decent coffee with it, you can make food as well. Fuel is cheap and it is very reliable. Been using mine for years now. Also packs small.

John Henry

yes, I realize it is not an espresso machine.

I think I paid $40. The pods were impossible to find. It's been in the back of my cupboard for years. There are better options.

Trangia Stove and a coffee press, here.  Best combo ever.

If you don't own a Trangia, you should.

If I still made coffee in camp I'd have one of these

https://www.rei.com/product/888643/stanley-vacuum-coffee-system-17-fl-oz?cm_mmc=cse_PLA_BNG-_-8886430001&CAWELAID=120217890000954050&msid=xOZ9llTX_dc|pcrid|10813456705|&mkwid=xOZ9llTX_dc|pcrid|10813456705

I don't cook at all in camp anymore so I ditched my stoves (I only had four different ones).

yeah, cooking in camp is what I was trying to avoid.  That is why being able to fill the thermos with boiling water at the cafe and bringing it to camp or the rest stop to brew coffee was attractive.  no need to carry a stove, or fuel. I suspect that in just about any camp ground it would be easy to trade just about anything for boiling water.

My espresso comes in a plastic jar .  It's called 'instant coffee'.  I drink it to wake up. You guys have too much $ to spend on stuff you really don't need.   :boxing:

I consider my Trangia a "need". Where we ride and where we camp? It's a need.

Also use it here at the lake in the winter when the power goes off from a tree knocking down the power line.
