1100 Sport - V711 Chalk and Cheese?
« on: July 25, 2016, 12:25:55 AM »
I have just been out for a ride on my new V7 and when I got home I thought I better take the 1100 sport for a ride as well.
Talk about similar but different.

You have to really commit yourself when you ride the Sport, stretch out and fit into it and be very deliberate with your  clutch/throttle/gear change. The V7 you just hop on and ride, Even starting the Sport, juggling the throttle and choke to keep it running without coughing and spluttering for a short time while the engine gets a bit of heat into it. The V7 just push the button. The biggest thing to watch is the brake performance, that is very different. Both motors have the same feel but that V7 is SMOOTH and the controls are light. Exciting times having these two in my shed.

Isn't the hp difference significant?

The 1100 has much more power but the V7 has instantly accessible power that you don't need to go looking for. The 1100 really winds up and builds power as the revs rise, but it is still what you would term a torquey motor. The V7 stays flat and never seems to really build but when you look at the speed you are going you realise that it is very deceptive power. The torque is right there with the V7. I can't wait to get the V7 on the road with our local Italian club, it will be a lot of fun on the tighter slower going.

Can I assume the Sport is carbed? Maybe a FI Sport or V11 would be peppier?

From the 750 Breva on the small blocks have very linear power. At any rpm you don't feel a surge of  power like when a big block when the cam kicks in @ 5,500 rpm.  It's a whole different feeling.

If you piss off the shitbox delorto's and get some FCR's you will transform the sport you could also get a quarter turn throttle just to keep things interesting. To wake up the brakes you can simply fit a 16mm axial master cylinder like one off a 916 and this will be a massive step forward the stock one I think is 12mm and its a little underdone. Can't remember if I have actually ridden a V7II the V7 is a nice little bike for quietly and unobtrusively going about your business. The 1100 sport is a spitting thundering open road mongrel that will ride through town under sufferance.

Yes. And handling. And braking.

For me they're night and day different.

I have both and the FI Café Sport definitely has better fueling, especially between idle and 4000. I do think the Sport 1100 Carb has a power advantage at mid to WOT. Ram air may be the culprit there. Bumping 80 RWHP on the Café before the re-map and exhaust changes. A dyno run on the Sport would not be the same as there is no ram air to assist with power production. Seat of the pants says the Sport is a rocket above, ahem, certain speeds. Both have the same engine if I understand correctly. Just different fuel delivery systems.

My carb'd Sport 1100 with Keihin FCR41 carbs and full Staintune dynos in the low 80s RWHP.

It's tractable from 3,000 rpm to redline, but is happiest above 4,000 rpm.

It "felt" more powerful than my V11 Nero Corsa, but I never dyno'd the Nero Corsa.  The V11 engine was definitely more "refined" than the carb Sport.  Personally, I prefer the rowdy Sport 1100's personality.

Compared to a V7?  My carb Sport dynos with twice the RWHP with less than 100 lbs disadvantage.  My Sport 1100 will eat any V7 for lunch, in any performance test.

My Sport is the 'Serious' ride and is a complete difference to the V65, the V7's ancestor. Doesn't mean one is better just very very different.
