V9 oddities.......
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:36:09 PM »
I spent an hour or so tonight scouring the V9 manual after recieving a rather cryptic dealer bulletin about pre delivery a couple of days ago. While I didn't find an answer to the question I was asking it was interesting as it is the first time I'd really looked at the *Physical* components of the top end.

Most interesting is the actual rocker carrier of the V9 engine. The head is a very boringly conventional, dirty old Hemi with two valves per cylinder operated in the time honoured fashion by pushrods. Because of this the spark plug is offset to one side of the combustion chamber in much the same way as has always been done with this design.

Interestingly though if you look at the rocker carrier on the new design it has a, (Currently redundant.) central plug 'Tube' cast into the carrier. Yes it's pure speculation but why would they bother casting in a plug tube for a central spark plug unless there are plans afoot to use the 2V Hemi as a mere stopgap for a couple of years until they are geared up for a 4V head? Who knows? I for one would be all over a smallblock hi-cam like a rash if they stuck it into a decent modern chassis.

It has long been a Guzzi trait to start incorporating seemingly 'redundant' features in certain models. Features that only make sense when the full 'Plan' is later revealed. Perhaps there is hope still that Guzzi won't purely be the producer of overweight turds and hipstermobiles!

I suppose time will tell, I certainly hope so.

So maybe 10 years??  Um... 4-valve high cam is EXACTLY what I want. Cruisers are appropriate for their current V9 in comparison, yes. Hmmm...

I'll be holding my breath.....
Could we hope for any weight savings on such a motor, compared to the 850, 940, 1100?

A little 8V V9 in a lightweight chassis would be neat!

It's just the unique way Guzzi introduces its long-awaited new models ......

How do the EURO 4 tweaks affect the design? Eg is their a canister on all models? How does the air cooling hole in the head work? how do they inject clean air into the exhaust do beat the emission regs? Are the cats in the slipon? Despite it being an old design perhaps you can be naughty and bin the EURO 4 stuff easily remap via guzzi diag??? Sorry for lots of questions. In Oz I saw some review mention the long seat option need for the bobber. Anyone got a pic?

The air injection is quite crafty. It's not done into the pipe but into a chamber adjacent to the exhaust port. Catalysts are in the mufflers, not sure if we'll get charcoal canisters here, it's not a legal requirement so probably not. Remapping the MUIG3 isn't an issue any more but I don't know if anyone has started work on the V9 series bikes yet.

While a primitive type of design the V9 motor differs significantly from the earlier V7's. No point in making comparisons between the two.

.??? Modern design, short skirt, almost round, lump on top, three rings. Dunno what else there is to say? Nothing weird or unconventional.

I've got a V9 map. I just need someone who fancies being a test bunny to contact me.

We'll have none of that shit here thank you very much!

Providing there isn't some 'Reveal' this year of a new 8V smallblock I might buy one, finances permitting, for development purposes. If the 8V is announced then the 4V-V9 can lick my sweet, succulent, velvety buttocks!

It is correct, the canister is not requested. But the evaporation is measured, and to hold it as low as possible, the canister is the best way to achieve this. So, yes, according my information, the European versions of the V9 have the canister.
