I'd love to but with Datil coming up I need to check with my Social Activities Director to see if I will have used up my free passes for the summer...

A little fresh rainwater falling from a cloud doesn't hold a candle to being blasted with gritty road splash and monsoon rains and spray from truck wheels that's like a grinding compound that this bike's gonna get if it gets ridden ... so it won't even notice!

I KNOW there is somewhat of a disconnect between MGNOC and WG but I do enjoy the challenge of riding to a faraway destination and sitting in a chair drinking beer and looking at my bike...call me a dreamer!   :boozing:

I spent the most terrifying riding night of my life last week when I was stuck in an endless construction zone on I35 with 3" of standing water hydroplaning me across the road, 60mph sidewinds, a jersey barrier on one side that wouldn't stay away, and a solid row of stakes and cones waiting to pounce when the jersey barrier didn't.  The darkness sucked up any headlights, but the several-a-minute lightning bolts gave enough illumination for me to see that there were no exits and no overpasses to help me out.  There's no way to tell which direction the storm is moving.

All this time traffic is running me over on account of I can't stay on the road.  Literally passing me in the toboggan chute while I need three chutes' width to keep pointed forward.  It was a mess.  At one point a semi ahead of me blew sideways and touched the Jersey barrier.  He then plowed through the row of cones and stakes and stopped.  Shortly thereafter I did the stopping part in the under-construction area, in the open -- it was impossible to continue.

So if leaving the bike out in a t-storm is a bad owner, what kind of owner flogs one through same for 6 hours?

PS:  Trike made it through without so much as a burp.  I on the other hand  . . .

Well, David, you had little option...and you are on a QUEST...I'm just an old fart too slow to respond to repeated cracks of thunder....by 10 minutes or so...

Glad you made it through that mess!

Oh, no disconnect as far as I'm concerned. I like the rally's too I just have limited vac. Time this year new job and all. You should try taking a good long ride. Drink beer, look at your bike AND watch a bunch of crazy talented riders run 120mph+ on a dirt track. You might likey!

Damn...that much rain and grit and sand and it will wash the orange off the valve covers on the trike!  Glad to see you are making progress criss-crossing the country.  Sounds like the back roads might be a bit more friendly than the interstates...

I guess I must be horrible.  Mine stays out in the driveway unless I am riding it.  Another thunderstorm today, one yesterday and another tomorrow.  Yes, I hang my head in shame...but only cause I am not riding it more :)

According to the news, two people died in that storm.  Campers in the area I was fleeing.

I was relieved to see you the next morning, it took some luck and skill to ride that one out for it was a hell of a storm!
