"How to cut a pineapple."
« on: August 02, 2016, 03:19:31 PM »
Great summer fruit!  If you get ones from Costa Rica or Mexico.  My condolences.  Sprinkle some salt to neutralize the citric acid and make it more palatable.   :food: :food: :food:  I'd add some other steps that is quicker.

I had a Panamanian truck driver tell me they make booze out of pineapples down there. Ever do that tom?

Love me some pineapple!

I had an aunt who would cut them in a similar way, but put the top in the center of a large plate, then arrange the cut segments so they radiated outwards around the top, and stick a toothpick in each piece.  She'd optionally put a Maraschino cherry on each small piece, speared by the toothpick.  They were great for parties.

Like this one I found on the net, but usually with 8 rows radiating from the center instead of 4:

Looks like a lot of wastage by cutting that way.

We cut pineapples in a slightly different way like the YouTube link below

Lifelong cook/Chef here.

Don't cube your pineapple. Cut it lengthwise. It's sweeter at one end than the other. If you cut it along it's length, every piece gives you the full flavour.

Cut it in cubes, or across the width, and some slices will taste different.

Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

I cut the same way for presentation and use a thin fillet knife between the skin and flesh.  The core is cut out and made into spears for iced tea.  You can pin orange slices or marachino cherrie with a tooth pick.

I also cut it open using the spiral method too.

I generally remove the saran wrap and lift the slices out and eat them.

The best way to cut a pineapple is to zip one off the tree with a sharp machete...and eat immediately.mmmmmmm mmmmmmm

cut them into spears and grill them just enough to get them warm and some grill marks. Man does that bring out the sweetness and flavor. Great with grilled chicken.
PS don't cut the core out. leave it stack when grilling so the wedges don't fall apart. cut the core to when you put it on your plate.

The variety of pineapples that we have in Hawaii are sweet enough and low in acid that grilling is not necessary.  (Maui Gold and Del Monte Gold)

Cut into bite size. Wrap 1/2 piece bacon and secure with toothpick. Place in smoker until bacon done. Works in oven as well but without the smoke taste. I use one of those veggie cooker colanders to allow the fat to drip away. Whole water chestnuts get the same treatment.
