Even a gimp can have fun
« on: August 02, 2016, 09:28:47 PM »

When ever I pass a neighbors yard his dog comes out to the end of his chain, which stops him about 8 feet away  He cusses and rails at me in dog language, no doubt telling me how he is going to tear me apart if it weren't for that chain.  Today I received a lion mask from Amazon.
I opened the package at the post office and had it ready.  When I got about 50 yards from the property I put it on, then wheeled on past as I always do.  The dog charged to the end of his chain as usual to tell me off.  He then got a look and his growls choked in his throat.  He retreated back as far as his chain would allow and hunched his butt and shit.  I wheeled on chuckling inside the mask.  It was worth the eleven dollars just to see that reaction.

Well played sir.

Here's the kid that rode in your sidecar a few years back.

He still talks about it, thanks mang.

That's the best thing I've heard in a long while. No harm to the dog, except perhaps a nervous tremor. Congratulations.

cool! now get a sound system and punch ROAR every time you pass.. soon you won't need the mask or the audio. you can train that beast.. if you want to make friends, bring some soft dog treats..

wanna be extreme? ask the owner if you can walk him.. that dog could become your best friend (and you will be his) but you'll have to pick up his poop.. small price for what a dog is willing to return...

I tried to make friends by tossing dog treats, but his owner bitched me out and told me not to do it.
I guess he wants to keep the dog aggressive.

BTW Matt, I remember your visit.  That was back when I could still walk.  I haven't worn long pants in years now.  I still have that sidecar rig but right now it is suffering from electrical gremlyns.

Now that's funny right there!  You have to wonder what a dog thinks when he sees something like that.

We have a guy in town, Reggie, who carries a life-sized teddy bear hanging out the rear of his pickup canopy.  The reaction of dogs to that can be hilarious.

Then there was Porky, a man of rare humor and rarer means, who was most famous for the April 1, 1974 eruption of Mt Edgecumbe (look it up), when he hoisted a stack of tires up to the volcano and set them on fire.  Some years later folks woke up to life-sized silhouettes of moose, deer, and bear families he'd cut out of sheet metal and arranged in the lake proper and adjacent marshy areas.  Dogs went nuts about those for years until the city recently took them out when they were dredging the lake.

His kid, Piglet, has no sense of humor and rides a Segway around town on account of they took his license for having no sense of humor.  Before they took his license, he displayed his complete lack of humor by repeatedly bashing the panels of his white dually.  Sometimes he hit the truck with things and sometimes he hit things with the truck.  When he hit the police car, the truck had looked like white and silver wadded tinfoil for about a year.  It was all contangious -- the wadding and lack of humor and numerous empties rapidly spread to the policeman and his stuff, and the piglet drives a Segway.  I only mention that because he had it parked directly in front of the same policeman in a brand new SUV with skookum LED pursuit lights earlier today.  It made me think of Porky and why humor skips a generation, and it made me wonder what a dog thinks.

 What's he thinking?

When it comes to dogs, or any animal of modest intelligence really, how is it to think without words for a framework?

My wife had a cat that always tried to get in the house, despite having to stay outdoors because of my allergy.  One day she brought home a life sized stuffed lion from the display department of the Sears she worked at, and we put it just inside the front door.  Then we opened it a little, and almost immediately the cat tried to sneak in.  When it saw the lion, it froze in place, and after a few seconds, ever so slowly, walked backwards away from the door.  It was extreme slow motion, I assume to avoid causing the lion to see it as prey.

We later had some fun with it when we got dogs, and the reaction was a lot like Sasquatch Jim reported.

We live in the country and I have a young and dumb teenage like cat that want's to stay out and party all night. We have coyotes, owls, raccoons, etc. that could be a threat so we want him in at night. Found out that if I take my electric predator caller and set it on "mountain lion in heat" and hit the play button that cat comes home lickity split.
