Is my rear drum brake on correctly?

I have a question about my rear brake. I didn't notice the gap before I took it apart. Not to say it wasn't there, everything was painted black. I made sure to keep everything together, so I am not missing anything. Is that gap between the hub and brake plate normal?

the bike is not rideable, so I cant test it. I didn't torque the rear axel, but it is on tight.

I did a Google image search but couldn't find anything conclusive.

there were some that looked like there was close to zero gap and some looked like they had a gap, but not as big.

Are the wheel bearings fully seated in the hub? checked the axle spacer for clearance and is the cush drive cover plate and snap ring fully seated into the hub?

That is not correct, the plate should be just inside the hub.

It is on tight, I just didn't use a torque wrench to tighten it.

I took the axle out, took the shoes out and disassembled the linkages. I didn't mess with bearings.

Check the axle distance spacer is properly seated.

If this is like a my '72 Eldo:

Is the axle sliding properly through the swingarm?

Is the brake plate loose on the axle when the axle nut is "snugged" up? (btw snugged is not torqued down, just snug, finger or gentle wrench tight)

Did you put a washer in between the brake plate and the bearing?

And as mentioned, does the wheel have a binding feel?

Can you wobble the wheel when you grab the top and bottom of the wheel while the axle nut is "snugged" up?

A possible important question. Do the bearings look evenly out of the wheel? Can you push the bearings in at all one side at a time? as in push the rh bearing in and it seats but pushes out the lh bearing.
There is a spacer between the bearings on my bike. It may be possible for it to be out of place and hold the bearings apart the wrong distance.

The brake plate seats against the bearing. It looks like something is holding the plate out a bit.

I would pull the brake plate and look for scratch marks on all the parts that may stop the plate from seating fully. Then if you find one with a scratch, find out why.

I need to take it apart and look it over and compare it to the parts diagram I found online.

Right now the bike is on a wood block under the motor and the rear tire is not in the air, so I can't spin it at all.

You need to get the tire In the air to do anything with it.
