Hagon shocks
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:19:01 AM »
Yeah, I know, someone else likes them.

I just have to say how happy I am with the setup Dave sent me for the T5.

I shopped around for quite a while, trying to decide on a setup.  First I wanted fully adjustable/rebuildable just so I could make sure they were set up for my non-standard bike and so I could rebuild them when they were worn out (since the darn things cost so much).

Finally I thought that 1)  I have no experience in setting up bike suspensions  2) rebuildable at 2 or 3 times the cost of non-rebuildable and 3) Dave Quinn might be able to do the setup for me.

So, I got all the bike setup information, especially my weight, weight on rear wheel loaded and unloaded and sent it off to Dave.

Got a pair of nice twin shocks and springs.  My old ones were a set of aftermarket progressives from about 20 years and 70k miles ago.

At first I thought, these things are way too stiff.  Got out on the road and now I am impressed.  The bike corners like it is on rails now.  The old set I had on max preload and it still seemed soft.

I also asked that the springs be set so I can ride with them on 'zero' preload so I have the ability to load up for camping and adjust the preload for the trip.  Dave has it set exactly that way.

So...like others have said....if you want a set of good shocks set up for your bike at a REALLY good prices, send Dave a note.

Thanks Charlie, they are on my to wish list for the V65. There was a thread awhile back about how good they were and Dave's great service.

Great that it worked out for you too, Charlie.  I have a pair of low-end Hagons (preload adjustment only) from Dave Quinn on my H2 (triple)  and love them.  They were just over $200 for the pair.

Well, being a good Guzzi owner I got the cheapest ones they had, $214 a pair.  :)  If you want chrome and dust covers and such it will be more.  Mine are 'buried' behind my ammo boxes so no one will see them.

I just can't beat that price for the performance you get, and the service on top of that.

I agree.   I've gotten them for all my old BritBikes - I spent quite a while on the phone with Dave describing the use and loads that my MkIII Norton would experience.

Personal service makes a lot of difference.

I wanted a softer ride for my Nevada and gave Dave my weight and told him I always ride solo.  He set up a pair and they are perfect.  At first I thought they might be too hard but he said to put a few more miles on them to break them in and they would soften up.  He was right and I am thinking of putting some on my other bikes.

what springs you you have 18kg? 22kg?

only downside with these Hagon shocks they do seem very heavy.

P.S. Alf Hagon was on 'The Motorbike Show' ITv4 earlier in the week.

Hagon was a choice when I did my shock upgrade a few weeks back.  Although the price was god and the product seems good, I was unable to work wit the turnaround time.  If I have the leisure to send full specs and wait, I think I'd try them.  The big Progressives I got ($300/pr) are working, but only the spring preload is adjustable.  I'd like better tuning capabilities.  Hagon seems to be the only place (reasonable) that takes the time to do an initial setup for the machine geometry and offers a product that is tweakable in both spring rate and damping.

Dave sent me the 20kg wide springs.

I got them within 6 days from ordering.

Heavier?  As in how much they weight?  Mine are significantly less than the ones I took off.

The hagon nitros I think weigh around 2 kg each,
Matris I seen weigh about half that but cost a lot more.

for v7 (lighter bike) hagon would probably send 18kg unless you are on heavy side or carry a pillion
so 20 sounds right for your bike which is a little heavier.

Bike isn't so heavy as me and the stuff I have on the bike :)

I ran a Hagon on my GSPD. I was promised a 2-3 week turnaround. I think I got it in 7-10 days.
Great service. Super easy to deal with. Talked on the phone maybe 20-30 minutes for how I rode, How much I really weighed, How tall , how much gear on the bike etc. Nice shock.
