Another Morning Outing on the Wonderful Nuovo Falcone
« on: August 15, 2016, 09:29:34 PM »
Sunday morning, several of us made a breakfast run to a small café on the Florida side of Perdido Bay that forms the boundary of Alabama and Florida. We've done this several times and it seems to be developing into a Sunday ritual for those who aren't going to church on any particular Sunday (for most, that means wife is out of town)!

The ride there is only about 15 miles for me but I generally extend that event with excursions to afford myself the pleasant experience of a morning ride on whichever bike I choose to take.  I quite often take the Falcon.

I will spare all of you another lapse into a detailed description of the joy I get from riding this Falcon Civile. It is, though, a wonderful bike for just the sort of duty it performed on Sunday morning.  Altogether, I probably rode about 60 miles.

I met the boys, had a fluffy (high carb) biscuit and an egg with lots of coffee. Shot a lot bull about Guzzi bikes and others. Then, I crossed back into Alabama and rode the shoreline of Perdido Bay. Most of the time, I was running between 50 and 60 MPH.  That little bike is very smooth at those speeds. It gives a soothing, very mechanical ambiance when just chuffing along like that.

Saturday morning, I rode the Falcon about 100 miles to our Saturday morning get together.  Several Guzzi bikes are normally there belonging to the local Guzzi enthusiasts. The Saturday morning ride included an Interstate sprint that wicked the bike up to 70-80 MPH for about 20 miles. The single is a good runner.

A few pics from Sunday morning-

There's really nothing like a big single. I am fortunate to have both an old one (Guzzi) and a new one (BMW).

The inherent low-end torque and visceral experience of riding a single is great.

The Guzzi Nuovo Falcone is in a category of its own, however.

It's a relaxed ride and that huge flywheel will carry you through anything.  You can throttle it down slower than most people walk. When it's parked, you get to admire all those almost gothic engine details with huge fins and clean plumbing around that huge cylinder sticking out there in the wind.

Great pictures David. It makes me want to haul mine out of the garage - except we're currently in a deluge from a massive Gulf Coast system.

It all sure does look like a lot of fun.

I currently get my "bimbling" desires satisfied with a 1955 BSA M21.   I've ridden John in PA's Nuovo Falcone and they have much the same character, although the NF probably has 10 MPH on the BSA in real-world cruising capability.

Looks like some loverly countryside you're riding though.  Enjoy this weather while you've got it!

Yeah, we had that a day or two ago.  The folks in southern Louisiana (Baton Rouge) really get hit hard. Severe flooding there.
