Goose/No Goose

I have heard Guzzis called a Goose for as long as I can remember. Ducks and Geese (Ducatis and Guzzis). Are these derogatory terms from our Harley friends or just nicknames? I'd like to know so that I can either offend or not offend the right people.

I have heard people call Ducatis "Dukes" but since KTM has the Superduke, not so much.

I doubt if most "Harley Friends" even know there are nicknames for these bikes they've never heard of.

I've heard "Duck" and "Goose" for Ducati and Moto Guzzi for as long as I can remember, and never has it been uttered by a Harley rider.

Usually it's  an older guy who rode Triumphs and Nortons in the 1970s, and may have owned a Ducati or Moto Guzzi along the way.  Some older racer-types from the '70s and '80s use "Duck" and "Goose".  These are nicknames usually used by motorcycle enthusiasts, not your average cruiser owner.  At least in my experience.

Oh.  I chose "Pie".

A lot of older riders refer to our brand as moto guzee instead of gootzie.  I hear few Harley riders bad mouth Gootzies, unless they are new HD riders and know diddly squat about MCs.

If I think a HD rider is new to the MC fold, I tell them in Europe Guzzis have the same status there as Harleys have in the US.  But that HDs have an even higher status in Europe. I explain to them how few Guzzis are sold new each year.

I've never heard the term used in a derogatory manner - so Goose it is! After all, you can goose it...

And for those who think that pie is limited to Datil and the east, may I suggest Veyo Pies in Utah, just north of Las Vegas, and in the middle of some very nice riding! See http://veyopies.com/

They also do some pretty good BBQ on the weekends, making it a great lunch stop on a 300-mile loop from Las Vegas!

But, rather than spit out Moto Gutzee all the time I just say Goose.  And I call my bike The Goose.

Goose. I take the old Goose out for a honk. Or honk-a-bout. I call it the old war eagle. Or war dog. Or that steaming pile when I am feeling less than generous. Sometimes during a good ride and I am at a gas station refueling, and as I walk out to the bike after paying, I look at the bike and think "Ciao, Bella". Pie, however, is the best answer in any situation. Or any question. Whatever. Pie.

I always vote for pie. I don't care about the goose comment but grow weary of:
" what kind of Harley is that?"
" they don't make those anymore"
and the ever popular
"what is it?"

My Harley riding work mate told me about a Guzzi for sale in a storage auction:  "Hey Spaghetti Head, there's a Goose for sale down to the storage place."  Even though I was sorely offended, I bought the fully dressed T-3 for 65 bucks.

Guzzi is a wheaten coloured Border Collie and is a gimp. His alfa male counterpart, Atlas, had a bad attitude and would continuously bite and break Guzzi's forearm till we gave Atlas the green needle. So poor Guzzi walks with a fair limp, but when he runs, man, he goes like the wind.

The first ride I had was on an EV whose owner didn't mind when I asked him facetiously about his motor gutsy.

Little did I realize that was the beginning of a disease for which there is no known cure.
