Baseball (like soccer) is an incredibly boring sport to watch if you're not "into" it.  It will absolutely put anyone to sleep UNLESS they are aware of the player matchups, the pitchers' capabilities against the type of hitters they will face, the managers' strategies, etc.  (I assume that soccer is the same way, since the action is like watching paint dry).

Human umps are fine with me.   And wooden bats are fine with me too.   But all the "shattered bat" problems would be fixed if they just went back to the same (or equivalent) material and configuration that they used back when bats DIDN'T shatter on a regular basis.   It's simple enough, but no one will do it ....

The three "Bores"  Base Bore ,foot bore and basket bore. And the master bore, golf...  In the  the 1930's my father played base ball and foot ball in college and when onfor a few years to play Triple A ball for a few and semi pro football...Both my parents were baseball crazy and living by NYC there was baseball on daily during the summer. Dad used to have lunch with Yogi Berra occasionally... I knew every baseball play and rule, I knew what pitch Whitey Ford would throw with a man on first, I saw Willie Mays live on TV make the "Catch"......But shattered bats were not all that common.......Oh, I sucked at sports and  I do not watch baseball or any sports..

Baseball = 30 minutes of action packed into 2 1/2 hours.  Dad watched it ALL the time. None of my siblings care for it.

That's pretty cool.  Dad and Granddad were science teachers and coached baseball and basketball.  Dad played semi-pro baseball in Tucson in the 40's.  He was a huge Yankees fan.

In 1955 when I was 8 , me and dad flew down to Florida  to see Curt Gowdy during baseball spring training. Curt , a casual friend, was going to introduce dad to some baseball people to see if he could get into announcing the games. My mom had a fit because of the long periods away from home, so dad never took the position...
