Price range for rough but salvageable V7 Sport tank?

This is the worst of it. Looking for a reasonable price range knowing it will take a bit of bodywork. Rest of the tank is relatively decent, I think.

Questionable Indian tanks are about $400 but for a replica bike they might be acceptable.

I'd buy a repo tank from MG cycle before spending the money on that tank, unless it is for a real Sport.

Repops from MG are $800. Which are totally worth it for the right bike.

i have someone who could clean this one up for a very reasonable price but need to know what to offer for it.

Then I can decide which way to go.

The tank in the pic, unless it has already butchered...(uhm modified) may already be  a repop as the original ( second series anyway) had the little valleys and retainer bits for the aluminum badges , which was carried into the 750S/S3 models. Another option is a LM1 tank , however the gas cap closure direction points the other way. If the price on MGCycle is not to your liking , check Stein Dinse, TLM, LGC( former Stucchi) in Europe and compare.  When I got mine no tanks were available in USA and TLM had a good price and shipping was reasonable.

I thought early tanks didn't have a badge just decals? I know the bike the tank came from so there's not many questions about its provenance.

If its fairly clean inside then $200 is a good price, I have bought rougher ones for more ($350.00). A good body man can fix it up to look like new.

200 bucks is a great start. Anyway, with  new  repops at 800, 200  bucks + leaves you plenty of room for negotiations, repairs and what not. Doesn't look like you can go wrong.

Thing is with something like this tank unless you can be certain of its overall codified it's a very high risk enterprise. I'm guessing there is a VERY high chance of considerable internal rusting. You may get it repaired and beaten straight, even line it, and then find as soon as you put fuel in it the lining will lift or it may just leak like a colander!

I'm assuming this is going to be used on your T which you're going to 'Cafe'? The tank is a Tonti's crowning glory. It seems a false economy to go cheap on the tank. Not being judgemental, simply making an observation. Others will tell you what I'd be saying if I was being judgemental! :D

I fill old tanks with Evaporust and let them sit for 3 ~ 4 weeks, they come out like new on the inside.

I have a dented Le Mans MK I tank that I am taking to a body man today for repair and painting, he uses a weld tab dent puller and an interior pry bar to get the majority of the dents out than as little filler as possible. He charges me around $500 to repair and paint so on top of the purchase price and considering his cost includes paint and a tank sealer I think saving the old tank is a bargain.

Yes, if the costs come out the same then it's not a bargain. I figured that part out by myself. 

An original tank has some inherent value as it came from an original bike. I guess I'm just try to judge what that might be.

A while ago I had a Norton tank that looked like it had been wrapped around a pole. Had a guy fix the tank and got it back to me in decent shape and primered for $50. I'm not expecting that again.

 they are sooo many out there , i started to get sick of them , i like the 1000 sp/850T gas thank style better.

I anticipate it not working out of the box. Pressure testing and some tweaking might be necessary. But for the price it would be an alternative to the beat up V7 one.

And you can easily mate the 850 t seat with a v7 sport thank.
if you do not like the 850 t stock seat , the seatguy ( john revilla )http://theseatguyjon.com/  will take care of it building whatever you like .
easier to modify the seat that find and original V7 sport rear fender.

Other option is to use a 850 le mans seat and fender. ( available but no cheap )

if the lemans tank /seat has been done to death.. how about a Sportster tear drop tank (modded to saddle the top frame tube) and a tractor seat or cushy solo police seat from a HD? drag bars on risers?
if you don't mind filling up every 90 miles.. 

I like the watermellon tank you have and isn't it the largest volume Guzzi tank?

Good luck finding a used one, several folks on here have been looking for months (years?). Yes, you can "mod" something to work, it's been discussed here before.

Dunno. It's good sized. You can pick them up all day long for $50. They ain't special. As has been pointed out this isn't even the stock tank (apparently from a Convert) so really no love lost replacing it.
