Converting racer to special handlebars
« on: September 01, 2016, 08:36:13 AM »
I am now a proud owner of a V7 special, and have long been a fan of Italian bikes. Mainly sport bikes as my other ride is an MV Agusta Dragster, but a V7 is so versatile it needed to be in the arsenal.

My question is this; my girlfriend has a racer and loves it but her hand gets a shooting pain after about 30 minutes of riding, likely due to the slight leaning she does with the lower handlebars, she is only 5'2". She rode my new special and immediately was more comfortable with the positioning. Rather than selling her racer to get a special, because she loves everything else about her bike, can this easily be converted to have regular handle bars? Additionally, can the foot controls also be replaced to a less rearset position? Basically, are these bikes that similar where all the parts are basically interchangeable?

She has a 2013 Racer

Yes, and yes. Your dealer should be able to do both. There is enough slack in the controls to install low bars. Top tree is pre drilled for bar risers.

You could try to swap the bars pegs etc with someone who has a stone or special and wants to convert the other way.
I was able to swap the rearsets on my triumph thruxton with someone who has a Bonneville at no cost.
The top fork clamp is not interchangeable on the triumph but it is on the V7

Thanks, that was what it looked like to me.

Yeah, a trade would be ideal, because I am sure the controls are not cheap, I am estimating the handlebar part around $250 DIY or if she goes to the dealer or a shop closer to $400.
