Made this a standalone thread .... v7 vs v9 stock suspension

I originally had this post in jgrebe's thread re v7 suspension, and felt like I'd interrupted a good thread with my question.  I am curious about v7 vs v9, especially if someone on here has spent a fair amount of saddle time on each.

Any V7 owners here who have had suspension setup issues with their bike, that have ridden the V9 Roamer or Bobber, who  could comment on the relative differences between the V7 and V9 out of the box?  Is there any difference?

After surgery and a few other issues, the 1200S and I may have to, sadly, part company.  Need lighter and lower.  Considering several alternatives.

From the pictures I've seen, forks and shocks appear to be the same on the V7 and V9.

It sure would be nice if there was an "S model" with nicer suspension.

I thought the V9 stock rear was much better than the stock V7 I own during a 15 mile demo ride on the V9.

I now have Ohlins on my V7 rear.

I had the same impression.  I would probably upgrade on either, but with the V9 I wouldn't feel the need as urgently.

A quick look at the Ohlins webpage and maybe they are STX36 Twin models?

The earlier V7s have sachs shocks but I thoughts the V9 and v7ii had different shocks? the V9 has a slightly longer swing arm which is claimed to provide an improvement. the V7 has 390mm shocks, what does the V9 fit????

Jim Hamlin at Hamlin Cycles in CT had his friends at Ohlins customize Sportster shocks for my 2015 V7 Stone.  Expensive little buggers but good stuff always is.  As this bike is a keeper it's worth it (for me). Shocks provide same ride height as stock. I also have one of my modded seats (add two inches and my blend of padding.).

As you asked: I also have a RaceTec front end Gold Valve kit, extended sump, Agostini pipes and a GuzziTech remap.
This motorcycle runs a fine as any machine I've ever had or been invited to ride with twin rear shocks and I can't praise the remap enough.
