This bike was posted for sell in Toronto area(CND $$$):

I'm not very mechanically inclined and except the look I will not be able to detect possible problems. Any comments regarding the bike / prize are greatly appreciated. Will see the bike on Sunday, so any advice ais greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That model Cali came out in the late 90's so even slow evolving Moto Guzzi had enough time to get it right. Maybe put California Vintage in the subject line will get more response.

I'm thinking about buying this bike, selling is not my problem :)

Hi, Janusz.   Shaun, here.

I'm happy to help you check the bike out, if you like, and will be in the Burlington area on Sunday for British Car Day event at Bronte Creek Park.  Depending upon the time you are planning to look at it, I might be able to join you.

The asking price of definitely on the high side, but the bike does have very low mileage, and the white ones are more rare.  FYI, there was another (black) CalVin for sale near Ottawa recently that was on the lower end of the scale at $7K.

These are great bikes, but there are a few, well-documented issues that need to be sorted out (like with many Guzzis) to get them perfect.  I put together a list of info for another friend who is looking, so will dig that up and email it to you for reference.  You'll undoubtedly also get some great advice here.  Finally, check out posts by forum member "Sheepdog" as he has done a great job of sorting his CalVin.

These are among my favourite Guzzis, and I will probably own one someday.  You could do worse!

Cheers,
Shaun

At the current exchange rate , that works out to less than $7k US , which seems reasonable for a 2009 Calvin with low miles and nicely outfitted . I don't believe there are any real problems with this model that a good map can't fix .

I owned an '09 white Calvin.  They are just not "any California", and NOT the same as an EV, etc.

I'd say $6-7K USD is about right for this one.

Hi Shaun,

I will really appreciate if you could join me and review the bike. I can be in Burlington at any time, just please provide the location you want to meet at. The current arrangement with selling party is I will call at 1:00 PM on Sunday and we will arrange the time to view the bike.

Thanks,
Janusz

The only issue apparent on that bike is that windshield , which W/O some vents is nothing but an updraft generator . Figure on replacing or modifying the existing shield . Love the color .

That depends on the height of the rider.  I was fine with the stock shield.  Only issues I had was the hose on the in-tank fuel pump, and some shitty closed loop fueling.  Both can be easily sorted out.

Yes, windshield, fueling, taillight bracket, a few other small things.  Nothing too troublesome, and fixes are known.

Janusz, I will send you an email so we can coordinate for Sunday.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hello ... This is Peter here from north of Toronto.

I have been following with interest the discussion about Canadian prices for a Calvin. My bike is a 2004 California EV touring model, and I wanted to ask what is the value compared to the Calvin?  The EV certainly is very close to Calvin in design, but with a different style of course.

Hi Janusz
Hi Shaun
I am in Toronto as well and have owned a 2008 Calvin in black. GREAT BIKE! Search the archives for some narratives of my experience with mine. Shaun is a great resource on anything guzzi so you are lucky to have his guidance as am I. If you do buy the calvin, I kept two aero pacifico fairings (original models for the well regarded H&H fairing from Harpers) and the larger rifle windshield when my calvin sold. Both help reduce buffeting at speed. Good luck with your prospective purchase. They are the cream of the tonti cruiser series.

Hi, Peter.

I really haven't seen a large number of Californias for sale in the area, so it's hard to give a firm valuation.  What I would say is that the CalVins seem to be in their own range separate from the rest of what are, as you say, the same bikes under the skin.  It seems that the earlier Californias uaually range from $3500 to $5500, whereas the CalVins seem to have asking prices anywhere from $7500K to about $8500, usually.  The two bikes that have come up recently have been anomalies (at least in my perception), with the Ottawa bike being low, at $7K, and the one in Burlington being higher.  I think that bike was originally advertised for around $10K, and it has now come down to $8950.  Still too high, in my opinion, but it's the first white one I have seen in the area (if that is important to someone), and there aren't a lot to choose from.  I suppose, like anything else, what a bike is worth is whatever someone else is willing to pay for it.  If you find the right person at the right moment, you'll do well.

Not sure if this helps, but those are my thoughts.

Hope we see you out at Port Hope (or Keene) next weekend.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi, Harry.  Good to hear from you.  I don't think you're on our local mailing list, so let me know if you want to join us next Sunday for our ride around Rice Lake (starting and ending in Port Hope).  If yes, I'll send you the details.

Cheers,
Shaun

PS:   As an aside, don't forget that British Car Day is on in Burlington, this weekend.  Weather for Sunday looks like it is going to clear up nicely, and there should be over 1000 cars there.

If I was going to buy a CalVin I would put this fairing/windscreen on it.

Very nice. Dean.  I haven't ridden a bike with that fairing -- do they work well from a buffeting/turbulence perspective?

You cut the screen down from the bottom so that you just see over  it or you can order a replacement one from https://bikescreen.com/.

It is a very good screen and they look great on the bike also. I've ridden all day in the rain with one, matter of fact I was the only vehicle on the road the rain was so bad.

I couldn't stand that barn door fairing on the Cali during the time I owned it briefly...the buffeting was horrible.  Much preferred riding it without that windshield...

Tonight I brought my CalVin home. It was very nice ride from Burlington to Toronto, perfect weather and bike was just fantastic. It handles way, way better than my Audace. I had a little bit of problem gear shifting, or should I say fitting my feet between footboard and shifter. Other then that the bike is perfect, it fits very well, the seat is excellent, it look good and sounds even better
