1000S Questions

I've seen one in person so I know they probably exist. 

I've never seen one for sale. At least that I can remember.

How many did they make?

Do the owners ever sell them?

Would you rather have a MkI LeMans or a 1000S?

Its kinda like asking an alcoholic if he wants another drink. Got a LM1, rode a 1000s once , Love to have one! Differences: not many,  possibly a bit more power on the square head, a little more agility  on the short neck , short swingarm LM, ( if agile is a term one can use on Tonti Guzzis), but , at the end of the day, I , for one would like to see them both in my garage, parked next to each other.

The Elusive 1000S!!
They seem to trade hands directly without advertising. There are not many. Find some owners and stay friendly with them.
I would much rather have a 1000S than an 850 Lemans.  The 1000S is more exclusive but the real reason is that it will run away and hide from an 850 Lemans.  The 1000S is a 1000 Lemans in shorts and a T shirt,  no storm trooper outfit.  I prepped and rode the first one in the States, a big valve engine with 40s. They love to fly and will flap you like a t shirt on a flagpole in a hurricane!
Hold out for one.  It's a great bike.

I had a riding buddy that had one, green frame, big valves, it was one sweet machine. I'd love to have one but they go for mucho Denero.

Poor old Les is gone now, I wonder what happened to his old S?

I "test" road a green 1000S and a red Lemans V both big valve engines. The Green 1000S is is drop dead gorgeous and a blast to drive but I'd rather have the LMV for ergonomics.
I could not walk upright after squeezing my 6'5" frame into the 1000S.
I settled for a Mille in 1991 instead of the Lemans. At the time the price difference was just a few hundred $s. Still pinch myself for not getting the Lemans.  Fran at Moto America was having one of his "fire" sales also know as cash flow problems. Catch him on the right day you could drive off with a good deal.

I think more like $16K and up in today's dollars to get one.

I have an 1993 green model with 1280 original miles on it, yes that is correct 1280 miles! still has the original date coded tires on it. Originally purchased in Calgary Alberta, driven on one trip and then stored. I would consider parting with this one for cash or cash and a suitable Guzzi trade. I will see if I can get some pictures added, or if you want PM me. This bike shows as new.  DonG

I have an 81 CX which is similar to the LMI and only because I have done some engine work to make it somewhat closer, but if we are talking from the perspective of riding, I'd take the 1000S over the LMI.




A few years back someone was selling this rough version of a 1000S in PA and he was asking something like $7K, but that is from memory. I offered him $3,500 but never heard back.

I prefer the style of the 1000S if I had to pick one, but I'd take an LM1 in a heartbeat.

I had a '91 big valve 1000S.  My understanding is that only 170 units were imported/sold between '91 and '93.  Most were green frame with black but a few were orange.  The bike was like a red headed nympho who owned a liquor store....wonderful to date but not to marry.  My first ride was from Roanoke Virginia to Tampa Florida.  I thought I'd never be able to stand up straight again.  She was a fantastic, agricultural, beautiful machine that should grace a museum.  When I sold the bike it was hard to find a buyer.  That was in about 1998.  Times and tastes have changed a lot since then!

The reason the bikes were imported in '91 but not '92 was because they did not sell worth a darn.  You could still by a new one a few years later.

I have a later green one and would still love to have a MKI. I am slowly building something similar.

I have only ever seen one other.

It is my favorite bike ever! And everyone loves it.

Have a '76 850 LeMans and '91 1000S.  Different rides and both fun.  Kind of like comparing a '93 Daytona and '97 Daytona RS.  Both fun and different.  Throw in a '97 1100 Sporti and well different.

I have a green one.  I was at the time looking to see if they did the orange one with an orange frame.  What a sight that would have been.    The 1000S is in Kona, Hawaii.

I have used a John Deere touch up pen, and while not exact seems to work OK for minor nicks. For some reason they primed the frame in white, then sprayed it with green, so when it chips the white is sometimes revealed.

Interesting. I wonder if they used a white base to make the green more lively. That's how you paint fluorescent colors. Good to know, thanks for the reply.

While there can be any number of reasons to go faster or slower from one ride to the next, rest assured that my '91 1000S has way, way more giddy-up than my T3 even though the T3 has had more performance stuff done to it and aside from correcting the atrocious stock carb jetting the S is nearly stock. I was reminded of that fact up Angeles Crest Highway on the S just yesterday, a very beautiful day up there. Not even close.

I can't resists a pretty face, after sharing some information and striking a deal, Don has entrusted me with his beautiful 1993 1000S.



It is like new, and the mileage is real
