What an odd country! You can still smoke in bars! I thought it had been outlawed everywhere in the first world!

Nope glad someone has the balls to not go with the pressure and I'm a non smoker who hates cigarette smoke! Austrians do things their own way, like Bavaria, beer for breakfast! Not for me but it gives me some pleasure to see people kick back.

My sister went to Austria one summer in the 70's as an exchange student. She said the ashtrays would magically fill with cigarette butts in an instant.

I wouldn't expect a guy who lives there to be so surprised.

And your dog can follow you in, sleep under the table while you eat and then mooch leftovers.  I love the local places.

Keep an eye out for Phil & Johannes, Pete; they are going to have to return the bikes (boobber & V7) to the Vienna dealer before flying home.

Some of thier bars are 100s of miles from anywhere, impossible to police.
Yes you can smoke in bars but the tax on a single pack is something like $30 US and the pack has to be something like 99% covered in smoker death images so you wont be smoking many.

interesting country, probably the only country in the world where it is illegal to sell 5 liters cans of engine oil to the public....
but you are allowed to sell 5  one liter cans.

Let's have a contest to come up with a rationale for this...

My thought?

It's to protect the environment - after all, the non-professional is much more likely to spill the container and this way, he'll only spill one liter and not five!

It's not a good idea to try to understand bureaucrats, it can injure your brain.

They do have some fun roads, once you get into the Alps.  The Zillertaller Hohenstrasse is one lane with 2 way traffic.  You'll often find the big tour buses up there so passing becomes a necessary thing.

Just been there. Saw the T shirt. Thought of P.R. :azn:

Had a lousy coffee in Vienna. We had better coffee out of the automatic machine on the cruise boat. After the coffee in Vienna had been hyped up I found the coffee I had to be expensive and crap.

Guzzi content. I saw my first Guzzi Of our European trip in Vienna, a later than mine 750 Breva in black. I saw one other Guzzi in the 23 days in Europe, and that was two sightings of the same machine in Amsterdam. Guzzistas are certainly in the 1% league :thumb:
