Not Guzzi but it's an Italian bike

 I picked up this 96 900 Ducati Monster yesterday...Repaint is a nice , the bike runs well and has a 20 year old patina...It's got a vented clutch cover with the usual rattling going on...Mufflers let's you know it's a  90 degree twin...

Replace the cam belts if they're over 4 years old, or you don't know their age.

Looks like a good score.

I rode a friend's mid-90s 750 Monster and was amazed at how "bonded" I seemed to be with it after just 10 miles or so ... great-handling, comfortable bike with good power.

Whenever I bring up the stale old "Maintenance" wheeze, guys tell me that on an air-cooled two-valver, one shop stool sitting on the off-side of the bike, a few hex wrenches, and a set of shims will have it ALL done in an hour or two, so quit moaning ... or so they say ... ?

Never seen a green one before but it looks really good. Monsters are great fun especially the 900, I love mine.   :thumb:

My monster is the 3rd one that I have had.

I cant think of any bike that I would want as an only bike, it is very good at so many things and I think that they look awesome (particularly the first gen - up to 2008).

 Last Ducati I rode was on my 74 750 around 1987.........I took the bike out for 15 minute ride today ...I just put a fictitious license plate it.. :copcar:
  It has the solid mechanical presence I remember. Low vibration other than the shudder when lugged.. I feel comfortable on it ...The engine runs well but the carbs need attention , the CEV "racing" tachometer has a mind of it's own...Neutral is impossible to find when stopped with the engine running, likely a bit of clutch drag...It's fast but lacks the explosive torque punch of the Buell....The exhaust sounds fantastic.....
  I like the bike....I like working on bikes , the best of both worlds... :thumb:

Very handsome bike...I like the olive color. I've always had a love/hate relationship with Ducks, but if I had one it would have to be a two-valve 900. I really liked both the Monster and the half-fairinged Supersport of this vintage...

I loved my M900 and would have another in a heart beat. Really is a do everything bike, from commuting to track days and touring. Easy to look after too with a little patience.

I have a 92 Supersport now - same motor -  but still hanker after a Gen1  Monster.

ENJOY!

BTW, Phil on the Ducati MS board has over 250,000 miles on his, still all the OEM parts from the heads down, cases never opended! They are a tough mill if looked after.

I used to take my 78 Bonneville to get work done at a shop in Houston.  They had a Darmah on the floor and I drooled over it every time I saw it.  Lovely thing, I often think I should have done whatever it took and bought that thing.  Woulda shoulda coulda...
