After admiring the fine examples of Scuras on here from a few folks...I got the bug!

I was lucky enough to find a nicely sorted Scura in Mississippi about a month ago and brought it home last weekend. Great excuse for a road trip from Houston thru Lafayette, Baton Rouge, up to Jackson (enjoying Johnny Cash along the way) and back home thru Shreveport and Nacogdoches to Houston. Got it out yesterday with Tom on his Stelvio for a nice 100 miler and absolutely love this bike. It is so flickable, sounds amazing with the LaFranconi's and just responds without hesitation. It feels like the Porsche of Guzzi's...point and shoot and it goes exactly where you want it. Now to find a carbon fiber chin fairing for the bottom and check if it has a Roper plate or not. The bike is a looker no doubt and makes you grin from ear to ear!

So Paul....have you ridden a LeMans from this era as well? Did you find major differences?
I have an '03 LeMans and love it, but sure the Olins would really make it handle better.

Congrats, they're a hoot.

If there's a Roper plate, you can see it with just a cursory glance unless it's been painted.

Thanks all!! I can't wait to take it on a bit of a longer ride, it's quite addictive to say the least!

Chuck - I've been scouring the V11 forum now for a few days...lots of good info there. I shall put in for one of those doo hickeys you're manufacturing as a backup for if I'll need it. The nice thing about this one is it has a completely rebuilt transmission from Moto Int'l...got the full detailed receipt, and it shifts like a hot knife thru butter.

May do a few cosmetic items to it, but it really needs nothing at all, it's in perfect shape. If only I didn't have to go to work today...I could rack up a few hundred miles on the beast!

Ciao Ritratto! Not yet...but would love to one day - perhaps I should ride it down to Le Carafe for a looksie! The Ohlins setup seem fine to me so far, I haven't tweaked it as the fellow I bought it from weighed at least if not a bit more than me, so I've left it as is to get used to it a bit before I start tweaking it. I've seen notes that it's geared for 160 lbs slim Italians - that might have been me when I was 25, but no longer!

Once you get the sag correct for your weight.. mondo importanto.. here's what I use on the Mighty Scura.. and Rosie before she went to live with my friend Jim.. I told him not to mess with it.

from maintenance records:
10.19.13 17222 set front shock compression +3 from full soft, rebound+6 from full soft. Rear suspension Rebound 24 clicks from full soft, compression 12 clicks from full soft.

Indeed it is and the Norge will remain the 1 or 2 up tourer and for extended day trips, while the Scura will be for fun runs, she looks so good as is, I almost hate the idea of putting any bags on her.

Already ordered a new set of Rizoma gold fluid containers to match the Ohlins forks as a little farkling.

Now looking for a source for a new face plate on the Veglia white faced tachometer as this one is a bit faded...

Thanks Jack! I hope so...we passed thru there a few weeks ago on the way back from Garner and Luckenbach, and made the mistake of going to Smitty's for the first time instead of our regular stop at Blacks...unfortunat ely that was a big mistake...nowhere close to the quality...maybe they had an off day, but the Q and side fixin's were terrible by comparison.

If we head out, I'll be sure to post up a note so folks can arrange their schedule and join us...

Would love if you came by La Carafe sometime. I will be there on Wednesday night (after 7 ) and Sunday afternoon(1 -7) Just let me know if you feel like coming by and I'll bring the LeMans, as I ride all three, depends on gas in them and my mood.

Somewhere around here, I have a road test from Cycle World, on the Scura. If I remember right, they couldn't get the shock soft enough, and had it re-valved.

+1 on getting sag set correctly - and installing new springs if it can't be set within specs with the existing springs. If you don't know how to set sag, you can download the Ohlins manuals on V11LeMans.com. The Ohlins are fabulous. It's my first bike with such a nice suspension and I am spoiled now.

Be careful following advice from Chuck's Scura - black voodoo magic was done to it and any advice may not apply to "normal" Scuras.

Well, true.. but nothing but re springing was done to the suspension.

Sounds good...Sunday is a good possibility...will let you know if we head over. A little hard to get mademoiselle on the back of the Scura, maybe we'll come on the Norge this time, or if she's busy I'll come over on the Scura.

It was the opposite. The Scura's Ohlins shock was very lightly sprung, and most testers complained about it.

They updated the specs for the following Ohlins-equipped machines, but I still had to go to a stiffer than stock spring on my Nero Corsa to get it acting right with riding 2-up (or with camping gear).

That sounds like an off day to me. Living in town, I fancy myself a bit of an expert on the local joints. However, maybe one of the most interesting things about bbq is how subjective it seems to be from one person to the next.
