The (Very) Mixed Blessing of October
« on: October 17, 2016, 07:25:56 PM »
Rode home from the train commute tonight via my V7II Stornello. In the 3 short miles before pulling into my garage, this occurred to me:

No more bugs :)
Way more deer :(

Crispy, colorful autumn leaves (glorious).
Wet autumn leaves (perilous).

Still riding...awesome!
Not sure how long I'll still be riding. Not awesome.

Ahhhhctober. Can't sure if you say it with a sigh or a smile.

October on the TEXAS Gulf Coast brings the first cool/dry front of the season.  We have been broiling in tropical heat/humidity since May.  That is five plus months of misery for me.  I tend towards inverse SAD with September being the worst for the blues as I need outdoor time to be healthy.  October is gorgeous at our Colorado cabin where I was all of early October.  Halloween brings the start of the holiday season.  And I celebrated one year retired on October 5th (in Colorado).  Plus the fly fishing is supreme.  The best bike riding starts, no more watching the heat index clock.

No mixed here, October is best.

Just got in from an evening ride.  Can't believe that it's almost 80°F at 8:30PM on October 17 in Chicago.

Windy as all get out, but otherwise pleasant.  Probably the best riding weather I'll see until next spring!

Best,

Carlo

I spent the last two days riding fairly close to home (within 40 or so miles.)  Not a bad thing, living in NE Ohio, since there are several nice destination points within 40-75 miles, which makes for a nice afternoon ride.  Day one on the BMW (first) followed by a great afternoon ride on the 1200 Sport.  This bike never disappoints!

Day two.  This afternoon started late, about 2pm, so Burton, Ohio was the destination, specifically the Coffee Corner.  They bake their own pastries, have a neat location, and I've met several people over the past few years that always make stopping in a pleasant occasion.  It was an R100GS afternoon.  And, I admit, I rode nearly 100 miles for a blueberry scone and a cup of coffee.  I do that a lot.

Sorry .... no pics of today's ride.  I'll try to locate a few pics from earlier this year, and will edit them into this post.

I love October in NE Ohio ....... it's just too short!

When I lived in the big land, October was always my favorite month for the reasons you guys mentioned above.
Here it is just another month of disgustingly beautiful weather.

The only down side to October in Las Vegas is that the days are shorter and the winds can be a bit gusty. Other than that, it's riding prime-time!

It is worth noting that fall colors in the desert are pretty much like summer colors.

Or spring colors.

Or winter colors.

But in the desert, if you pee enough yellow onto a sagebrush it might turn temporarily greener.
